The pressure’s on for Major Applewhite as Houston takes on San Diego State in Vegas
The opening Saturday of bowl season is a mid-major showcase, and the Las Vegas Bowl (3:30 pm ET, ABC) is the headliner.

I’m starting to feel like this will be a UH blow out. SDSU’s coach did not sound convincing when JD asked him about stopping Ed Oliver and Greg Ward Jr.

I expect this to be a hard fought game and will take maximum effort to pull out a win. They aren’t an easy win by any means.

It really just depends on whether our guys show up prepared and focused. We’ve all seen the difference between a locked in team (OU and UL) and one that is highly distracted (SMU and Memphis). Now that Applewhite has been chosen and the drama is over, I expect this team to be highly focused.

Pumphrey needs 108 yards rushing to pass Ron Dayne as the NCAA’s all time leading rusher. If our defense is focused and ready, there’s no way he’s running for that much on us. I’d like to see us hold him to 50.

Agreed. They seemed focused and as if they weight of the HC uncertainty is off their shoulders.

No hes a great back. I think he’ll fall short. 107

SDSU has beaten one team with a winning record all year. Wyoming.

Of course, that doesn’t mean much because the Coogs are a team that can beat any team in the country, and lose to any team in the country too.

This game you can’t predict. We don’t know how the players are going to play. A lot of stuff going on.

The only game harder to predict was the Penn State one. We lost Sumlin and they had lost a lot more.

All I really care about in this game is seeing a couple of things new from the offensive play calling and a couple of the plays disappearing from it.

The comment that I liked is “But expectations will still be high, and … well, because this is Houston.”

Continuity hires actually have a pretty good track record of success. It’s just that they are never “sexy” and there have been some high-profile flameouts.
