The question we really need to ask ourselves through all of this madness

To answer that question, our Final Four status in basketball would make our addition to ANY conference a significant upgrade in that particular revenue sport.

Likewise, our presence in the Houston TV market is significant.

Not saying that we are hot schitt on a silver platter or anything, but we are at least important enough to expect to get a look.

No OU & UT will not pay 100 million to the remaining BIG12 schools. It will be the usual 15-20 million with some form of future scheduling agreements. Remaining schools will have to play ball or they may find themselves playing FCS football.

Our president, Renu Khator is looking at the whole picture. Some conferences are looking for a well rounded, well endowed and well supported university to go along with competitive athletics. That is why her goal is a top 50 Public University by adding a Med school to go with good Law and Optometry and Business and HRM schools. Our university is becoming quite the gem, and it is all thanks to our current president, she knows what is important to conferences, and the top conferences want top schools.

But why expand to 12 teams if there will only be 4 major conferences

Keep it at 4 teams

We’re located in Houston. Enuff said. Right in the middle of the best athletes in the world :earth_americas:.

I do not know the logic to going to a 12 team playoff, 6 or 8 was reasonable, but that would give the “4” conferences 2 bids plus two at large. Assuming ND is not and independent, that leaves a good shot for us to get the playoffs. We already showed we can get to the Final Four in our conference.

They have no reason for at large bids unless it somehow benefits the SEC.

It will be like this

SEC

PAC
ACC
BIG10

Irrelevant G5s
