The Run and Zzzzz offense

For $4.5 million a year to the coach, how many years will we need?

That one left a mark, but we were coming off a historically terrible season, so that took off some of the sting.

You could see something happening with the offense even in that terrible game, though. It just wasn’t clear if it would be good.

This offense was hard to watch. But there was a 10 play 85 yard drive starting on Hou’s own 15 yard line in which Chriss led his team to a TD and tie the game 14-14 in the 4th quarter. That took a lot of huevos to do that considering the circumstances.

It will be a huge downer for next season if there is not a chance with the OC.
That was the most pathetic display I have ever seen with this program. And that’s even with the ability to run against that defense.

Adding Carlisle should do wonders for our Offense.

Chriss will improve. Maybe by a lot.

2025 QB play should be excellent!

And that is the confidence building drive a QB and OL needs and it will show up with better future play.

I still think his passing ability is suspect very much so

Maybe, but we don’t really throw the ball except in obvious passing situations, so I would say the play calling is making it harder for him to succeed.

We ran the ball well with Utah putt 10 in the box most times
We needed to make more efforts to go deep on them

To be fair, keeping the RNS wasn’t really an option for Helton. A relatively small number of coaches knew how to run it, and they weren’t big on knowledge-sharing.

He referred to it as a gimmick offense and was determined to implement a pro style offense at UH. The Run ‘N Shoot was doomed and it resulted in an era of mediocre offensive football.

There is really no way to know as of now; however, the 2 TDs he threw makes me think he has it !!

He is being greatly hindered by an OC who seems to have only 6 plays in his book.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the UH coaches decided to keep the game ultra conservative to stay within Chriss’ comfort zone and limit turnovers. That resulted in an ugly, boring, but close game. The handoffs up-the-middle were maddening sometimes, but it was all part of the gameplan to keep it close.

Do I want more passing? Heck yea, but not at the risk of a turnover.

If Chriss is coached up properly, when he sees that all his guys are covered and the alarm goes off in his head he should be throwing it away.
DS seemed to never get that. He always took a sack or through into coverage trying to make something out of nothing.

Our average conference score after 5 games is 26 for them, 10 for us.

How the hell do we have a 2-3 record? Fritz is getting the most out of this roster.

Hopefully he builds a better roster soon.

Occasionally completing a big pass does not make you a great QB. Next year’s QB is not on campus yet.

As I recall, CDH’s offense was called the “Sloth offense”. Someone on here coined that term and it was appropriate.

To be fair he is better than Smith, which may not be saying much.

While I agree with you about what Helton should have done, I don’t think he has the imagination to run that offense.

He only needed to hire someone to run it for him. JJ may not have been a good HC, but he was an expert running the R’N Shoot.
