Speaking of Gary Patterson, he was just named DC at USC.
This is great for the Big 12. THIS is our rivalry ! Itâs a lot of funâŠlooking forward to being @ Tech game 9/19âŠWill I get shanked if we beat 'em
âŠnever had issues BITD, cause we owned them
He wrote about the numerous athletic programs struggling(which is a legitimate point to make).
A couple points to make:
- Correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it ⊠the new members(UH) were only getting half the tv $$$($20 million rather than $40 million) the first 2 years. That effected our athletic performance. UH is now getting the full $40 million.
- Some of our teams have really struggled (womenâs tennis, soccer, softball, and volleyball).
The tennis team finished last place last year has a chance to have a winning Big12 Coference record this year(maybe make the NCAA Tournament.
The volleyball was too short. this last year . The shortest team in the Big 12 Conference. The coach (Rehr) has led UH to the final 16 and can coach. He has signed a 6â4" HS senior already. If he can get at least 2 or perhaps 3 6â3" or 6"4â players in the portal UH should get back to winning in the Big 12 Conference and NCAA Tournament.
The womenâs basketball team has a proven coach in Mitchell who led Univ Kentucky to the Eight 3 times. The team is better than last year. With the easiest part of schedule ahead UH should win at least 3 or 4 games in Big 12 Conference this year. UH probably would have beaten Kansas St and BYU if not for the fight.
The womenâs track team will be significantly better this year. They had injuries (AA 400m Mouton)and lack of depth.
The womenâs new soccer coach(Williams) has shown he can coach and was a much improved team this year. UH has a good chance to make NCAA Tournament nest year.
All of the coaches now have more $$$ from the portal. UH athletic budge has grown by $20 million this year!
UH teams should start have winning teams(with the exception of cross country which does not have many scholarships).
I forgot to mention womenâs softball. The softball team has a new coach⊠If they have a better pitching coach UH should be a much better team than last year.
I didnât perceive any animosity in that article.
Points out that attendance is an enigma, which is nothing that hasnât been said on this board one million times. Adds that we have quite a bit of competition for viewers from pro sports, UT and A&Mâagain, true.
Overall, I understand him to think UH was a good add.
Whatâs to complain about?
Guy says a lot of negative things about us, but still ranks us 3rd out of the 8 new schools. Easy to make the argument that we are 2nd, not 3rd, since we beat ASU in FB this year and finished ahead in wins and the rankings, plus our BB team is hugely better than theirs isâŠComes across more as a hatchet job than an honest assessment from a Fort Worth paperâŠbut hey, we are rivals with them now and shouldnt expect any love from Fort WorthâŠ
That is what I love about joining the Big12, the automatic hatred from the other Texas schools, Tech, Baylor and TCU, we are finally in a conference that makes sense.
Article has good points. But TCU had empty seats last night.
From what I heard from a UH friend of mine, who attended the game (he lives in the DFW metroplex), the roads/weather were still problematic.
That arena only holds about 6,000, and they were playing a Top Ten team and conference team at home.
Given that, they have little room to criticize us on an attendance basis.
Last night the TV announcers mentioned how bad were the roads and that they had problems with said roads.
That is why the attendance was lower for our TCU game in Ft Worth.
Recognizing reality is the conscious acceptance of facts. Ignorance of reality may be excused, ignoring it is a choice.
Yeah, nobody cared when Dana was âcoachingâ but now that we have a real head coach and staff itâs not so fun anymore.
One thing to get drubbed in basketballâŠ.but out recruiting and out performing on the football field causes hurt feelings.
Probably, moreso, due to the recent weather up there.
All it took was for us to get good in both major sports. They hate us. GOOD! Thats one of the things that make it funâŠIts a major reason why we wanted to join the Big 12. Having the chance to play, and beat, our old rivals, plus new BB hate game rival Kansas.
Only issue I had was calling us a basketball only school in the 80s. We were 7-3 straight up against Frogs. Played in a Cotton Bowl. The run and shoot was born that bled over into the early 90s. While it wasnât the 1970s success we were above .500 whereas Frogs were 34-73-4. Thatâs a garbage program.
Shaun,
We are where we belong and this year we are getting PAID !
Go Coogs !
