This is the REAL travesty with Holgerson!

Coaches at Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and a former coach from OU begged to differ.

They didn’t want us because we only take and offer nothing in their eyes. 17000 fans at a game and an alumni base that is not that energized. Yep, we may take a recruit from those teams, we also are taking a piece of the pie. Just like our fans are now looking down on the teams we leave behind in the AAC. We aren’t worried about the sleeping giant of Tulsa or Tulane (both top 3 programs in their states). No, we don’t want to share.

Good post and don’t the Texans do corporate sales?
The companies could by tics then give to employees and being big12, it will be a lot easier to do. I’m the aac or cusa, almost impossible.

Agreed. Now buying a suite or a group of seats for a season at TDECU can guarantee games for Houston alums in the company/company’s clients, AND every year or other year games for TCU, Baylor, Tech (etc.) fans/alums as well. Add that with decent cost and it should be an easy sell.

What is the difference between the teams listed above and UH…wait a minute, its…no that’s not it, is it…no, I know- they are pro teams and UH isn’t.

Not a matter of don’t. UH is simply a cluster.

Holgs has great timing, I’ll tell you that. He came to West Virginia with a great team with lots of future NFL players and made an initial flash- then he spent several years telling us that ā€œā€This is the Big 12ā€ and how that meant you had to give him 5 years to get his guys in…then when his guys don’t get it done, he’s out the door to Houston.

I realize that. And by no means do I expect the same level or sponsorship nor the same number of sponsors. It doesn’t mean that we couldn’t reach out/recruit/entice some of them to also sponsor us at some level though. There’s benefits for them as well as us. We’ll never get the kind of sponsorship the pro teams do (understandably), but it doesn’t mean we can’t get more than we currently have. It’s just an opportunity to further leverage our location in the great city of Houston. Not trying to knock anybody, it’s just something worthwhile I think the school could pursue more.

If that’s the case then there’s an obvious opportunity there if the Athletic department can clean up their act.

Sadly, the oppportunity with one fortune 5 company is gone for the foreseeable future

Similar song here …

What are they gonna do? Play cards? As long as CDH is here it won’t be to watch good football.

The better football the better. The truth is there’s good opportunity for networking/schmoozing for business whether there’s good football being played or not though.
