Take Willie Fritz
Willie is a bit up there in age. Iād prefer a younger coach who could potentially be a long-timer here.
Iām out on hiring former letterwinners.
Love Hugh Freeze. Doubt heās going to leave Liberty. Huge faith component there.
The next hire is critical (or Dana working out is critical). Just because we are in the Big 12 doesnāt change the fact that more realignment is coming. Whether it is 5 years, 7 years, 10 years it is coming. We donāt want to be the USF of the Big 12.
We have the ability to win big in the Big 12. All the pieces are there. Now lets put the pieces together and get this program on the straight and narrow.
Chip Kelly might be turning it around in Westwood. Just imagine what he could accomplish with greater Houston area recruits.
I donāt get the fascination with Kingsbury. The only position heās ever really excelled in is OC with Case Keenum then Johnny Manziel. Then he went to Tech to be HC, and despite having Baker Mayfield followed by Pat Mahomes, never won more than 7 games in 6 seasons. He sounds exactly like Holgorsen except worse (looking at CDHās WVU days, not here).
All that to say, no thanks on Kingsbury as a replacement. I still have no idea how/why he got an NFL job.
Would Briles want back into the Big 12? Nothing would trigger Baylor more.
You are right. Forget the familiar names. At least, donāt think of them first. One point of disagreement is on failed P5 coaches being bad candidates. Some places good coaches go to die - Kansas, Syracuse, Nebraska for just 3 off the top of my head - might yield a good candidate.
Nothing would trigger 90 percent of our fans, as well.
True.
The comments about recruiting are spot on
Look at our Center. Instead of developing one we have a La Tech Grad transfer for one year. Then gone. And this guy is a CUSA talent. Could not block the Tech NG.
And on and on. Just pitiful.
I think he would leave. I think Hugh is desperate to fix his reputation and prove he can coach at a high level. That kind of determination can be great for a program.
He got in trouble for recruiting violations. The main thing he got in trouble for though was the calling of hookers on the athletic issued phone. Was it bad, yes, did he deserve to be fired for being an idiot absolutely, is it the worst thing a coach has ever done, definitely no. Art Briles arguably did much worse things, and already some people want him back.
But I think he should be given a chance to coach at a high level again. Because he is a dang good coach, thatās not debatable. If he continues to do well at liberty and stay out of trouble, then he should be given serious consideration.
Freeze used Liberty to rehab his reputation. FWIW, Iād be okay with Freeze simply realizing lining up hookers for your players is a bad idea. But playing the religion card? A bridge too far. Heās a fraud.
Donāt know anything about the religious aspect. But should that be held against him? Since when is being religious a crime? Even if he is a fraud on the religious side, so what? As long as itās not illegal or hurting anyone it should just be ignored.
Will Keenum accept if offered. His experience as a Pro would be invaluable aside from being very intelligent. His background as QB if off the charts.
He is not too young. His age/experience is far beyond his years and has a āheartā of a Lion.
Every fan base thinks their former players can be great coaches at the alma mater. Most of those fanbases are wrong. It is better to keep good memories of the players than tarnish them. Scott Frost, please step up.
I agree about keenum and former players. But I donāt trust Frost. He did well for one season at UCF. But he is failing big time in a big league. I donāt think he is worth the risk and may have been a flash in the pan.
