Another article for Mooncoog to prove people hit that elusive $1 million benchmark every day:
AND that’s not even Net Worth…that is only one component of their assets.

That’s like 0.3% of the population if you include the number further down in the article for IRAs. Meanwhile 17% of the US population is over 65. Those aren’t exactly fantastic odds.
I’m pretty sure you aren’t trying to help me prove my point, and yet you just did.
31% is the percent of the us population with an undergraduate degree.
You just showed an article in which only 0.13%, not 1.3 but 0.13% of the population has a 401k of a million dollars.
Add the number of IRA millionaires and the total is only 0.24%
a far cry from 31 because reality is different than shoulda woulda coulda.
That’s JUST 401k worth…NOT total Net Worth.
Not factoring in other assets such as house equity + savings + IRA + ROTH + Investments + Real Estate + Social Security + Liquid Assets + Etc.
I’ll stare the definition of Net Worth again
Net Worth = Total Assets (combined) - Liabilities (debt)
That article proved a segment of the population hit the $1 million mark JUST in their 401k bucket meaning their Total Net Worth is greater than that.
I’ll stand by my premise. IF you have a College Degree in the United States and IF you practice discipline over a long period of time, barring a tragedy, you have a HIGH likelihood of amassing a Net Worth of a $1 million by age 65.
Investing ONLY $100 a month from Age 25-65, gets you $1.2 million at historical returns
Then come back and try to prove your point when your number is closer to 31% and not 0.13%
$100 a month gets you there Moncoog…that’s it.
That’s how low our bar for discipline is in this country.
My argument was that it CAN be done.
I’ve never argued whether it CAN be done.
your argument at the start was that if you are a college graduate and don’t have a million net worth at retirement, barring some tragedy, then you’ve done something wrong.
You can do everything right but a college degree doesn’t make it automatic. And real life numbers show that to be the case.
It was the hubris behind your initial argument that I disputed. This revised argument, I completely agree with.
Now they’re driving up the Bayou Oaks prices to drive them out lol
Not really the same. UTEP and UTSA have all their own sports teams. UHCL just chose their own mascot about 10 years ago and have no sports teams. Don’t know if UHD has a mascot or not. Those two would have been good opportunities to pull into the Cougar sports fold long ago. A missed opportunity.
You’re right, not totally the same. The part of it being the same was that they are separate institutions from UT, like UHCL and UHD are. UHD’s mascot is the alligator, I believe. Don’t know UHCL’s.
UHV’s is the Jaguar. UHV does have sports teams.
The University has not increased annual rent charged to chapters in Bayou Oaks houses since they opened in 2003. The room rates charged to student residents are among the lowest in campus housing, especially when you consider they are not required to purchase a meal plan as is the case in most freshman and sophomore level dorms.
Why do you keep saying the University is pricing chapters out? Are you talking about chapters being charged vacancy fees because they’ve neglected to fill their houses? The University is currently offering discounts on rent to chapters with 100% occupancy as an incentive and a way for the chapters who have struggled to catch up. That doesn’t seem like driving them out.
I remember meetings before bayou oaks was completed. I never liked that it was just one year contracts for the Greek orgs.
We need more women on this board! Thank you for dropping facts.
What happened to the Frat houses?
There were a few in that area
Most moved in to Bayou Oaks. Not sure exactly beyond that. I think they were all rentals really, with maybe the exception of the Sigma Nu house. If I remember right, Sigma Nu lost its charter at some point. I could be compleyely wrong.
Sigma Chi had a mansion across the street from Bayou Oaks, but it got torn down in 2016-2017 because the chapter got suspended for hazing
Sad
Fraternity and sorority members are speaking out about the suspension of Sigma Chi from UH because of alleged acts of hazing on members.
Est. reading time: 2 minutes
Any idea what is there now? I haven’t been to that corner of campus lately. I remember when they tore down the house the first time to build the one pictured.
It’s an apartment complex
Buyou Oaks is a full on apartment complex, but they assigned a handful of units facing the front lawns for frat/sorority housing
Yes, I know that. I was asking what went on the Sigma Chi house site which 7th year answered.
