Yup.
And a lot of wealth is also “asset” driven wealth, which is a side of the credit/loan point you just brought up. If a (larger) farmer owns 1000 acres of land assessed at 10,000 an acre he’s theoretically worth 10 million just on land alone. But if the farmer is actively farming, as well as actively using the equipment he owns, that’s not liquidable.
Unfortunately, Iowa’s richest person, Harry Stine, is a fan of the the Hawkeyes. Every school has deep pocketed donors, but we lack that whale, culture, and sheer number of fans some other schools can bolster.
I think you can make a very strong argument Iowa State is in the top 1% in donor and asset utilization. Unfortunately, the neglect, collusion, and failures of the 70s-90s hurt the potential to cultivate and grow the fan base in order to compete now.
It is what it is but we have to be smarter than most.
Sloppy offensively, against weak competition, but the physical traits and tools are enticing. His body positioning and angle on his blocks were superb (on the video) and were the most appealing part of what I saw.
Whoever made that “highlight” tape should have focused more on the defense and a little less on the offense. The former was the far more impressive aspect, yet only comprised a fraction of the tape.
I will see your 70’s through 90’s and raise you with our 80’s-2000’s.
Kidding aside, it sucked for a long time here as well. I guess as the universe changed it helps to be in the fourth largest city in country.
I saw a tape of Mark Pope saying BYU would always be conservative and not have a real NIL program basically. He sounded defeated. He jetted not long after.
I think 2 months later Kevin Young had things rolling.
I think the BYU experience shows boosters can sometimes not be engaged but jump on board later if there is something they are passionate about.
Looks like he’ll be playing alongside Arceneaux

Nate Pickens to BYU
Shot 39% from 3pt last season
It looks like he’s the backup PG they needed. I think the roster could be done now.
I was calling for a backup up C and rim protector before, but freshman C Staton will be ready to fill that spot.
Baylor adds another big man Mayo Soyoye
Soyoye told 247: ““I’m an athletic hustle player who dives for loose balls and gets rebounds. I’m not really a scorer, but I can come in, set screens, and make plays for my team.”
Sounds like a Sampson kind of player.
That’s probably true but I don’t expect a kid to say it.
That’d be like a chick on a dating site saying, “I not really a looker, but I can come in, take care of my man, and make dinner”
Something to be said for knowing your role
If we get Milos back we can be looking at the #1 & #2 preseason teams coming out of the Big 12.
1. Houston
2. BYU
3. Duke
4. UConn
5. Purdue
In my top 5 right now. Hopefully Milos & Cedric (Duke) return to school. If not it’ll have a shake up to my top 5.
That’s crazy that Shaq took an unpaid role as GM at Sac State…
I don’t think Shaq is just unpaid… I bet he’s about to start writing NIL checks.
Plus an agreement to rename to shaqramento state?
