“Dr.”?
The shaq deal is strictly for show as doubt it lasts once his son takes off after the season
Shaq has a doctorate.
He actually missed a game just to attend his graduation at LSU.
Shaq doesn’t need the money, plus anything they could possibly pay him, he could find in his couch cushions.
Nice link to a story about Shaq getting his B.A.
Here one about getting his EdD
Love it that he has a Phd, tremendous accomplishment. Here is someone that is worth $100’s maybe even a $1B and decides to get his Phd. Just amazing.
I figured one of his kids was playing for Bibby…
an EdD (Doctor of Education) is not considered equivalent to a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy
Key Differences:
- Focus:
EdD programs emphasize practical application of research to solve real-world problems in education, whereas PhD programs focus on theoretical research and expanding knowledge in a specific field.
- Career Paths:
EdD graduates often pursue administrative or leadership positions in schools, colleges, and universities, while PhD graduates typically work in academia, research institutions, or government agencies.
- Program Length:
EdD programs are generally shorter than PhD programs, often taking 3-5 years to complete compared to 4-7 years for a PhD.
- Dissertation:
While both require a dissertation, the EdD dissertation often focuses on a practical problem in education, while the PhD dissertation is typically a more theoretical, original research project.
In Summary:
An EdD is a terminal degree that prepares individuals for leadership roles in education, while a PhD is a terminal degree that prepares individuals for careers in academia and research. While both are valuable, they are not interchangeable and cater to different career aspirations.
This is not always true though. It depends on the particular program.
Very true.
There are many areas of “study” that although they are getting a “ PhD” it is total fluff.
I’ve known a couple of people that had a PhD and were idiots….you need to take into account were the PhD is from….trust me on this.
I would imagine the practical degree would be more useful to an educator than the PhD.
I know in my part of the engineering world it’s unusual to find a PhD working on engineering design. They have trouble living in the “real world”… can’t apply their knowledge to a practical application. Everything becomes a research paper for them.
And if you ever get a resume from a Rice graduate… it usually goes right in the trash.
Just my $0.02.
I’m the education world a PhD usually just puts you on the highest pay lane that’s what out is used most often for. Practical stuff is experience and maybe your masters
“And if you ever get a resume from a Rice graduate it goes straight in the trash”.
Yes, and then they become College professors that teach statistics and suck at that as well.
I only call physicians, ‘doctor’. Anyone that asks to be called doctor is kind of a douche
What about Dr. J?
Why would y’all trash a resume with Rice University on it? Lol
and Dr Dre
I’ve worked with a number of rice grads. Mostly smart hardworking people.
Don’t care for their administration and given the way they’ve hosed us in the past re: stadium usage (that was supposed to be for both schools) I’d be happy if we never played them again. let them wither on the vine.
