I’d chalk the hitting struggles up to Padgett, Davis, and Scheiner being banged up and then it seems that some of the freshmen may be hitting a wall.

HOUSTON NOTES

Houston used an RBI-double by Connor Hollis in the bottom of the ninth to earn its first walkoff win of 2017.
Cougars rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the fifth, scoring five runs over the final three innings.
Houston used five sacrifice bunts by five different Cougars to win.
Bottom of Houston’s order went 7-for-11 with six runs and four RBI in the win.

Houston tallied nine hits, but it was the small ball that won the game. The Cougars were led offensively by Connor Hollis, who tallied three RBI on a two-RBI squeeze bunt and the game-winner on an RBI-double in the ninth.

Freshman Wendell Champion II went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while freshman Tyler Bielamowicz recorded two RBI on a triple and finished the day with two hits.

Sophomore Trey Cumbie struck out seven, but allowed six runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Sophomore Aaron Fletcher relieved Cumbie in the fifth inning and finished the game, tossing 4.1 innings in relief – allowing just one unearned run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts to earn the win, improving to 1-0 on the year. Fletcher retired the final seven hitters he faced.
