I don’t think it was mean spirited. It’s just facts and let’s be honest: nobody likes an outsider calling out your messes. This is useful criticism for the better.
We’re years beyond Hofheinz. To even go into detail about that place is a form of mischief. Hofheinz had rats. I saw them. They were usually sitting at the press table.
Funny that UT “outsider” points out our messes just as we are rising as a program.
Justice had been complementary of the school before- even sent his daughter to UH.
Maybe she had a bad experience here.
Did we count the rats towards our attendant numbers?
Totally unnecessary to put this in Texas Monthly! Seems as though he has to be a hater. I wonder how many other basketball arenas are exempt from a few rodents feasting on concession droppings.
Justice says that our facilities were trash but now they’re on the level of UT and A&M, and you guys whine about it being a hit piece? It’s called contrast. Some of y’all have skin thinner than an apple.
Good article showcasing the universities’ main issue; attendance. Nothing else. No “hit piece” or slander towards the university. Some of you can’t handle honesty. I hope the administration sees this article and starts doing something about our attendance woes.
With that being said, winning and creating a “buzz” is the only solution to grabbing that fair-weather UH alumn/ Fan to start coming to home games. We are seeing it with Basketball.
I’m glad he brought up student attendance. When I attended ('06-'10), game day was the highlight of my week. I maybe missed 5 home games or less during my time. Now, the student section starts out strong and fizzles out by half time. Not sure why interest is not there with the student population. I feel like the school is doing enough on social media to create a buzz for game days.
Same. I went to a lot of games at The Hof since 1992. Not once I see a rat running around. RJ should stick to writing baseball only.
Y’all get emotional way too easily.
Maybe we wouldn’t get emotional so easily if we weren’t left out of the Big XII 30 years ago!
I seem to recall an article in the FT Worth StarTelegram about the difference in revenue between TCU and Baylor. Basically, the article stated the major handout Baylor got by being in the Big 12 versus TCU having to fight their way in. I would love to see one of our reporters do something similar. An article that would compare money, coaching turn over, local and larger rivals. All the things we weren’t given in 1996.
Once again, it would be contrast if the piece had not been written over a hundred times already. We all know how “horrible” old Hofheinz was. We’ve been told publicly over and over the last ten years. We know how bad attendance can be - just over a month ago we were told by the Comical. And we all know the B12 will improve attendance. Do these people just rearrange the same article over and over?
I’m not whining. I just can’t stand Justice. He’s always too clever by half. These people could write an article about “The Annotated History of Molly Ringwald” and UH attendance would find its way in there.
Lol that would make for an awesome short film to present in one of the local Short Film Festivals we have in town.
Most of rats I remember worked for the HC !
Is it just me or does Texas Monthly remind yall of a woman in a bad mood?
Yea, im old school so i dont care
Just like the ya woo cougar football thing, there should be a trolling shirt of the “We are the Ghost Rats of Hofheinz Past”
Maybe she found the courses too difficult. Common experience for those who transfer in from UT and A&M.
Richard Justice is a hack.
I don’t mind him talking about attendance because that stuff is true. The rats bit was just to put UH in a bad light. I have gone to a lot of games in that building when it was Hofheinz and not once did I see any rats. The only ones were on press row as Funk said.
