And being all-state as a wrestler in a state like MO is a way bigger deal than TX.

VERY good sign!

Apparently, there’s at least one big one. Willie’s cooking!!!

O need to dog Texas wrestling, it’s come a long way the last 20-30 years and you truly have no idea what the level is .

Yes, one or two are cooking. Can they bring it to the dinner table. At least they’re trying.

I realize it’s come a long way.

Back in my HS wrestling days in the late 80s, TX was a weak wrestling state.

Now, I’m told that my HS, St. John’s, has a good program, and of course, the caliber of the wrestling statewide is way better.

But in middle-American states like Missouri, HS wrestling has long been better established.

I’d surmise that even today, Missouri HS wrestling is still better.

I can’t even keep up. Breathe Coach Fritz. One thg i don’t worry abt is if he’s just bringing in bodies to fill space. He was very clear in Presser that they would be very specific in TP , that there would need to be a fit with Culture that’s expected. Very CKS like in his approach. That’s why he had success w 1-3 Star at Tulane. #Develop

And where did you wrestle in Texas in the 1980’s?

Of course it was weak because very few areas even wrestled in the state.

I went to state two years in a row and the only people there were El Paso, DFW and Panhandle……don’t remember anyone from Houston.

Excellent! Had offers from Illinois, Mississippi State, Maryland, and Iowa State. We’re now in good shape in the interior DL.

There were people that made state out of Houston

I wrestled and lost to a few of them.

One guy from St Thomas named Parras went 22-0 in his weight class and even got a bye

In my weight class, Corby Robertson from Kinkaid made state.

He kicked my butt!!!

I don’t remember any.

Must not have been many….most were DFW area and handful El Paso.

DFW of course had a lot more.

Irving MacArthur was a huge powerhouse. Dallas St. Mark’s had Jason Gordon. I believe he was a State Champ.

Amarillo Caprock? I think they were a power as well up North.
