How is it possible to have a finest moment against SMU ?
That game is the reason we are SMUâs Super Bowl every year. Coaches need to have that explained to them and the team because I AM SICK AND TIRED OF GETTING BEAT UP THERE AND IâM NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!
Same goes for the Tulsa game.
Those coaches and players donât care one bit about a game that happened 30 years ago.
They play hard against us because they want to be where we have been, a much better football program. For years we have dominated the series here and there and some years have had more fans in Dallas. Recently it seems we played our stinker road game on that trip.
I ran into a former player from that SMU team that lost to that UH at the barber shop, some years ago. He was still bitter about it then. He also bragged about how they were getting paid at SMU as well, really well.
Wish we hung 102 on themâŠ
Karma on them for hanging up âCougroesâ signs vs PSJâŠ
Funny story, real good friend played at TCU and Coogs were hammering them and he laid one on Andre close to the sidelineâŠDres reply âBoy, donât make me hang a century on youâ
The article said we had 2 healthy running backs, Ambles and Spoon. also we had like 6 wide receivers out for the game. We had no back up players.
And SMU was historically terrible.
No apologies or regrets.
We were so decimated by injuries at WR we had to move Kimble Anders to one of the slot positions and he went on to play 10 plus years in the NFL as a FB.
No one told them to blitz and play man coverage either what did they think was going to happen when they didnât get to the QB.
It was as bad as Rice covering Pat Edwards with a safety when Case and co put 70 on them in 2011.
The 71 - 17 gameâŠ
A friend of mine at the game said he had smu plus 72. Did I think he was good ? I told him we would know when the game startedâŠThey lined up in the bump and runâŠI told him that he lost !!
The fact that they played the run and shoot alsoâŠor at least tried to, contributed to the final score.
They would run 15 seconds off the game clock, then punt the ball back to UHâŠand so on and so on !!!
Forest Gregg was an idiot as a coach !!!
By the by, my friend broke even as it turned out !
What Notre Dame did the week before was worst. They deliberately ran out of bounds when they had a clear path for a TD and no SMU backs near them.
Those SMU seniors beat us.
Was that UTSAâs fourth year in Div I that beat us in the TDECU opening? Pretty irrelevant since then.
At the Astrodome, the stats, including total yards, were shown on the scoreboard. I still remember the crowd cheering when we broke the 1,000th yard mark.
Actually, it was 3 weeks after their lose to the Coogs, and - yep - SMU players whined after that game about how Notre embarrassed them by not trying their hardest. Sorry, you canât have it both ways. Also, had SMU not played so much bump and run man coverage against the Coogs when it was obvious their DBs couldnât keep up with our WRs, they could have shaved the final score down by 20 to 30 points. Ultimately, the blatant cheaters got what they deserved.
At the same they all knew why we had so few wins. We were in constant probation. This was well orchestrated to inflict the most damage to our program. The most logical move would have been to get us in the small 12 a couple of years ago. We all know the public comments and the end results. Actions are always stronger than words. The excuse of why adding another Texas program was ludicrous. Our inclusion would have injected a level excitment sorely needed since atm bolted. The utaâs and others have been scared of our potential since the first SWC title. They realized what a stupid mistake they made when they let us in. Again, actions speak better than words. This is so logical as what Switzer said. They have been scared since the 70âs. They let us in on an even playing field (I know I am dreaming) and we will dominate them shortly after. Uta canât let that happen again. That is or who is at the core of our exclusion. Right now they âseat prettyâ Since we are in the âditchâ we pause very little threat. That is why you hear âUH? No way they can competeâ You noticed my words are very polite.
I havenât heard that UH canât compete in the Big 12. That would be a nonsensical argument given the 2016 destruction of the Big 12 champions. I was referring to the formation of the Big 12. Sure the two not named Texas or Texas A&M got in because of politics, but by the same token that went down at the worst possible time for us. Yes, I agree that our potential had an impact on the most recent Big 12 fiasco. Holgorsen wouldnât have come if he didnât see it, nor would Herman have sought to launch his career here. And one can simply read comments from coaches/former coaches at Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and OU. But out-of-state schools were blocking us, not those in-state. Of course one could argue that Texas never supported expansion and he may be right. But if it did happen we would have gotten in because of support from the bloc of schools in Texas with West Virginia. I donât think Texas has the enmity for us today that they did at one time. Regardless of our potential theyâre a blueblood program and will always be one.
The formation of a P5 league or an invite to a P5 is directly related to the potential of that program. Two years of sub par performances while on probation should have never decided our fate. Sure our administration was clueless to say the least but in the long term the small12 would have been much stronger with U of H.
You were not pervy to the small12 meetings. We do not know what happened behind close doors. Facts are facts. We are still in the ditch.
Facts are that uta was pushing uthouston at the same time. I will add that they are still pushing for a uthouston. They still have not sold the land. It is obvious to add that uta has not said a word since we were not invited in. Look at the date of this articleâŠcoming from Austin.

Coincidence? Actions speak louder than words. âNo relation between the twoâ Sure, sure.
That was the SMU defense fault. They put 7 in the box and covered our WRs 1 on 1 about 5 yards off the LOS. So what were our options?
Run the ball blocking 7 with 5 with only 2 RBs on the roster? Thatâs a good way to get your RB hurt and kill the rest of the season
Throw a WR screen? That sets the WR to get hit hard and often. As already noted, 4 of our top 6 WRs were injured and our backup RB played WR most of the game
Have the WR run by the DB and throw a 15-20 yard pass that goes for a TD? Besides scoring, it was the best plan for keeping players healthy. That was the obvious choice
SMU ran the R&S too. They knew what we would do with their defensive alignment. If they would have dropped 6 back, we would have ran the ball or thrown short passes, but they chose to assume weâd do whatâs bad for our playersâ health instead of what could be bad for our rep
Evidently Uncle Tilman said the Big 12 expansion and UTâs land purchase are NOT related.
The Pony Excess 30 for 30 tried to make that argument, and I had the same reaction. SMU was mad at us for running up the score, and mad at Notre Dame for not running up the score.
