Tech spends over twice what UH spends.
They won by 2, missing a tie game by a few inches on our last play.
And the game was in Lubbock.
On less than 1/2 the budget we have caught up to them.
And their Head Coach said so.

Me tooā¦ but one thing that has been consistent for the past 2 years is that there is a lot of noise out there that UH spends at the top of the B12 in football & basketball NIL.
Sure, JL found one article saying we spend in the middle, but Iāve read way more that show us near the topā¦

Donāt kid yourself. With regard to football, if UH was anywhere near the top of NIL, our signing classes would be rated similar to those at UT & ATM & Tech. Instead, our recent classes have been rated similar to those at TCU, SMU & Baylor.

That is such an uninformed comment. Those 2 players are both at UH primarily because of their pre-existing relationships with our coachā¦and they were most likely offered more NIL $$$ to go play elsewhere.

The premise of this thread is ignorant. Because it comes after a tough road loss to the conference favorite, it implies that the Coogs lost because of the players they have and the (presumably) below market NIL UH is allegedly paying.
From what I saw particularly after the first quarter of the game, we have the players we need. Itās the coaching staff that needs improvement. Specifically an OC who understands how to stay the course and go with what works.

The Coogs did not lose the Tech game due to our NIL capacity. We lost this game because Tech played a little bit better.
However, an issue does remain that UH has the lowest athletic department revenues within the P4 which results in a restricted NIL capacity for our football players. And while NIL itself doesnāt win games, it does help better funded P4 programs to attract the best players.
By way of example, last year UH recruited & offered 18 of the Top 100 rated HS football players in the nation. Other than our coaching legacy recruit - QB Keisean Henderson - the other 17 players all selected programs with much larger athletics revenues (& therefore NIL capacity) than UH has (revenues shown are based on the most recent 2025 reported data) as follows:
SEC (10) - UT (4), LSU (3), ATM (1), Georgia (1) & Florida (1). - [All Top 10 w/$200+M revenues]
B1G (6 players) - USC (3) & Oregon (3) - [USC - $230+M & Oregon $167+M revenues]
Big 12 (1 player) - Texas Tech (1) - [Tech - $129+M revenues]

NOTE 1: UH with $100M revenues ranked #70 (lowest P4 program - need more FB revenues)

I have on good authority that we spend barely $15 million. The newest report by the athletic backs that up. Thatās about 1/3 of what Tech spends.

Those estimates are based on projected market values not how much was actually spent. So a well valued roster on an 300% lower budget.
I think our budget is 20-25 million this year and Fritz did a good job of getting quality players with what he had to work with.
Texas Tech has way more money then us though and you can see there recruiting profile is much higher then ours. To compete and beat them we will have to do our best to match them

IMO we should be providing Willie 30 to work with and weāll be able to beat texas tech 5 in 10 times going forward
Unless we know exactly what we spent on NIL it is pure speculation, nothing else.
The measure of success is not measure in NIL Dollars but by our record.
This is what great coaching does for you. If uta or atm were on the stock exchange investors would demand immediate leadership change.

He is an Oil and Gas Billionaire who organized other wealthy Alums to create their huge NIL and to pump up their Athletic Dept in general.
My guess is that UH can get all the $ we need in Downtown Houston.
Massive,rich Corporations are there. They should be supporting Houstonās University.
Does not matter what University the CEOās attended. They are not there. They are in Houston.
We should have Corporate sponsors. Lots.

Everyone agrees that the published NILs are best estimates, not exact amounts. I think the Athletic article made a good effort to try and ballpark the number for each school. They interviewed athletic agents, who actually negotiate NIL deals, and athletic department staff.
The absolute statement that to be in the CFP, a school must spend a lot of money is an overstatement. The more accurate message from these articles is having a large amount of NIL to spend on players increases a schoolās chances to play in the CFP, not a guarantee.
Common sense would tell us most players will go to the school that pays them the most money, and the best players command the most money. There will be exceptions, of course, family, geographic, coaching, etc. In the absence of those considerations, why wouldnāt a player go to the highest bidder?
Championship teams are, by-and-large, made up of good coaching and the best players. The best players go where they can get the most NIL.
Except that we just moved one of the colleges those businesses value the most away from downtown. That would be a sign that we arenāt interested in them.

But a large part of the college of engineering was moved 32 miles away. Definitely not conducive to the downtown companies who want engineers, which is all of the fortune listed ones.
