Three months pause on the Centennial project as well.

Sweet times

I’m especially bummed about the delay to the Centennial project until May 31st. I had assumed that was all donor funded.

There’s a whole lotta belt-tightenin’ going on across a whole lotta industries lately, it seems…

I’m not likin’ this. Recession looming?:face_with_monocle::face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Johns Hopkins is gonna lose $800m in research funds. All R1 institutions will have to scale back and try to get funding elsewhere. UH is just the school we care most about.

Doesn’t surprise me, given some of the recent announcements.

When does this start to catch up to and affect athletics?

The pause only affects new construction not yet started. The football ops building will be finished by August.

I don’t think there are any other athletic construction projects on the table.

I know it doesn’t affect the ops building but if UH has to tighten its belt and pause or cancel new projects at some point it is hard to justify new athletic projects or spending.

“Projects funded by donors and/or by the state legislature via capital construction funds will not be paused, according to the university. Projects currently under construction also will continue as scheduled.”

It appears the Hobby School will start construction but the medical research building will not.

Other exceptions to the construction pause include: A campus lighting and security enhancement project, which was fast-tracked after recent crimes on campus; improvements to Wilhelmina’s Grove and The Hobby School of Public Affairs Academic Building; and the renovation of Agnes Arnold Hall.

I guess thats what we’re gonna find out sooner or later.

Correct, the school may need to divert the subsidy’s to athletic to fund research short
falls now. It hurts everthing.

Expect our timeline to meet AAU objectives
just got extended as well.

I’ll be ticked off if our new Biomedical Research Building doesn’t get built because of this.

Well, they did not include it in the pause exemption. The building is probably still in the design phase since we have not seen a rendering of it yet.

We all know what the problem is and I’ll leave it there but I will also say that employees at UH and Houston Public Media are no longer allowed to work from home due to same reason as OP.
