UHAA Life Membership

Is it worth it? Please say yes.

I graduate in a few weeks and decided to take advantage of the $600 Life Membership cost.

I take pride in the university and strong believer in networking.

I joined Life Membership back in 2003. It helps the University with Engagement and you get some benefits outside the regular non members.

I’m sure I don’t take advantage of 1/2 the alumni association offers TBH!

There are some great people in UHAA.

Once you join, be prepared to be bombarded with fundraising emails and galas etc etc.

Some are pretty cool tho

I am a proud UHAA life member. I don’t live close, but was able to attend several great gatherings in Los Angeles. I don’t live in LA anymore and I haven’t heard much from them lately, probably because I am even further from Houston than I was in LA. I’d say join if you have the extra money. It would be a good investment if you can go to the gatherings where you are. Plus, you can take advantage of the discount and you are in for life.

I got mine for 300, see if they’ll do a 50 percent off near the graduation date

It’s worth it for me. Young Alumni tickets, the Goodies, I wish tailgates were still free but whatever.

I have been a life member for over 4 decades and I think it is an important way to help the alumni association fund all the things they do to support our university. It has some perks, but I generally do not use them, but that’s not why I joined in the first place

I am not sure when I became a Life Member, so it had to be years ago.
I paid in $1,000. So, i would say you are getting a good deal.

Yes ! I have been a member for years since my Masters. You can participate to the level you want , 0 - 100% . There are some powerful people in the Association and some regular professional folk, all of one mind …University of Houston. Have fun and Go Coogs !

It’s only 600 bucks now?

It was 1000 when I graduated… And that was before mega inflation.

Sheesh. Kids have it easy these days.

They are always running discounts for young alums. I think mine was on discount for $750 or something when I got it a few years ago.

I got mine at a discount right before the pandemic for $900, but not for being a recent grad. They were just running a special for it being, I think, $1500. Seems like there is no consistency with what they are charging alumni.

Yes, of course go for it! I am also a Life member.

Money well spent.
We gave a life membership to our son when he graduated.
It is a small way to give back to the university that has given us so much.

They normally do it for 1000/1200, but near graduation or the graduation rate is 600. Then it halves with a discount code for 300.

Got mine Spring 2020 lol

$300 is a great deal. I’m happy to see young alums getting involved and engaged. It will pay off for them and the school in the long run.

I paid $1500 for a duel life membership for my wife and I years ago after paying annually for an Alumni membership. That was before they decided to consider every grad a member of the alumni organization. Now you only pay up to become a Life Member.

I got it a few years ago for $700 when they ran a discount. The best benefit was the Life Alumni tailgate prior to football games. Me and two guests got free admission and all the alcohol we could drink and free good. Plus, we got a small gift each team, some of which were cool like a bottle opener. Kirstyn Kile ran it and did a really nice nice.

This year, they moved the Life Alum tailgate into the Athletic/Alumni Center. Eh. It was nice to have AC, bathrooms and watch other games, but it felt more removed from the pregame atmosphere than the outdoor tent. Plus, free drinks were gone. You get one. Plus, you had to buy access to each tailgate (I spent $50 total for all the games, which included one guest. Previously it was two).

I’m still glad I’m a member and glad I joined!

I bought a membership this year right before they changed the benefits. I’m on a payment plan and am thinking of cancelling the payments.

I am not able to walk down to where they moved the tailgate so I was not able to attend any of them this year. But I did get to walk past T-sips, Techers, and Pokes tailgating right in front of our stadium where we used to tailgate. Pezman and everyone else involved in that debacle should be fired.

I agree. I used to stop by with my wife and others who are Life Members in our tailgate. Not going to walk by the stadium to get to the Life Alum group just to walk back.
Just another disappointing thing in a disappointing season.
