Update on Texas Hill Country Flooding

When you look at the flood maps and think about how many people are in harm’s way along the river, it’s almost unconscionable that there weren’t external warning systems in place to specifically give people a chance to escape flash floods.

Camp Mystic is at the confluence, with several of the main buildings being in the highest-risk zone.

RV park in Ingram is in the middle right on the river.

Remember how we stopped buying cars after Nader got safety belts implemented?

I agree, we should have had better warning systems. It seems, from some articles I posted, the problem was there was no political will to get it done or at least it was a matter of who would/should pay for it.

As a point of reference, the location of Camp Mystic and that RV park are in the same kind of flood zone that you see at the confluence of White Oak Bayou and Buffalo Bayou in downtown Houston.

I’ll be interested to see how Kerr County responds. On one hand, you’re asking residents to pay for something that mostly protects visitors, but I’ll be surprised if voters there are content with the status quo. Lots of locals lost friends and family this weekend.

I’m wondering if Abbott will add something to the special session about this.

It wouldn’t surprise me, especially given the related legislation that got voted down. Even if there were good reasons for it failing, people aren’t gonna like the way that looks.

They call that area of the hill country flash flood alley

Unfortunately this is man made. They are replenishing lakes and aquafiers. That area was close drying up.

Huh?

Here comes the cloud-seeding conspiracy theorists.

Stop with the political psot non sense. You are a mod. By definition you are posting a political post.
By all accounts the river level went up 26 feet in 45 minutes. The only thing that could have prevented this is no buildings as close to the river as it was.
I will point out that tornadoes happen and spread devastation with the most advanced warning systems available.
Instead of posting despicable posts some of you ought to redirect your thoughts and pray for the ones that have been affected.

Central Texas is and was in severe drought. They clouded seeded the the floods happened.

That link says they were not seeding in that area recently.

Like I said, only the gov and cloud seeders know what the can do.central Texas was drying up. They needed water and they got it. They caused it.

So, should we not consider what more could be done to prevent a similar tragedy in the future or to at least lower the lethality of such a tragedy?

And those warning systems save lives. That’s much more important than the economic damage.

While the article I posted giving the history of discussions on any mitigation stratehgies is political by definition, because it involves government actions, I presented it in as neutral a fashion as I could. I have not laid blame towards anyone, any political party, or anything. It was presented for information and general discussion. So, your outrage is quite ridiculous.

This is false, but it’s pointless to debate it.
