Those that are against democracy, i guess. It seems to be well documented,
You are correct T-Moar for the UK. Boris Johnson is trying to change it.
Even if itâs twice
Hi Chris,
Per wiki, it appears mail in voting has been in place in Germany since 2008.
Absentee voting has existed in Germany since 1957, originally in order to ensure that all German citizens, especially the old, sick, and disabled, and citizens living abroad, have the opportunity to participate in elections. At first, postal voters had to state why they could not cast their vote in person on Election Day; but this requirement has been dropped in 2008, allowing everyone to use postal voting. Like in many other countries, in more recent years, voting by mail has become increasingly popular among younger and non-disabled citizens residing within the country; as such, various tools are being developed to help citizens, both domestic and abroad, more easily apply for postal voting.
So does Australia.
True but fraud has occurred with mail in ballots. Take the case of a person who got the registration for his cat that had been dead for a decade. My wife worked on the board verifying votes. One republican and one democrat looking at each one. Disagreement was to lead to disqualification. She found one and the person in charge told the other person to ignore her and pass it. She was the republican, the supervisor was a democrat. It happens.
Mail in voting in it self is not the problem. The issue at hand is our own postal system. I gave the example of receiving mail, including mail in ballots from the two previous owners of my house. I could have voted for them. Nobody would know. This is happening all over the country.
This is especially a terrible idea with this pandemic. Why you may ask? You already know the answer. It takes weeks right now to get your mail distributed to its destination. Do you want an election result the day of the election or are you prepared to wait weeks if not months?
I will mention it again. I talked to my mailman and mailwoman about getting other people mail at least ten times. It keeps happening.
Furthermore, why are we still getting mail in votes at multiple addresses? The chance of stolen mail is also real especially in a presidential election. Just the other day we read that someone had been convicted of mail in vote fraud.
In America we have space. That is not the case in Europe. How many buildings are closed or unoccupied right now? The malls are a great and specific example. Can you imagine the number of polling places that could be open using these facilities? The election is in November. This is plenty of time to adapt and be safe with this pandemic. There is not one good reason to not do this.
Itâs the future of voting. Weâre just behind in the world again.
No it is common sense. There is plenty of times to implement it. I still have not heard this mentioned.
Except for in Florida, no? I heard post office is all good there
So Iâm going to defend the post office here, mostly because I worked there for awhile and have 1st hand experience. Itâs simply not the post officeâs job to update everyoneâs address for mailing lists, itâs the residents. The post office will forward mail for 18 months that plenty of time to update your own address for mail. Now some folks die and next of kin didnât care enough to let everyone know, and people forget too. But itâs not the post officeâs fault, there arenât computers at the branches where someone keeps track of these things and it gets all punched up. They are there middle man, ensuring secure delivery from point A to point B. So for the mail in votes, that has nothing to do with the post office that problem is with your secretary of state, or whoever does voter registration.
Here why:
They are timed in getting things organized and out the door and are expected to be done by a certain time. The organization is still done manually, as magazines, and large envelopes come in separate from standard envelope sizes. Do they/did I try and catch those things? Sure, but you donât get credit from your boss for catching those things. You do get yelled at and canned for not getting your backside on the street quick enough. So itâs not worth taking the extra 20+ minutes triple sorting and figuring out these things, tagging them, etc. Youâre not going to hear anything from your supervisor about those things.
On mail in voting in particular, your ballot 99.95% of the time is incredibly secure. Itâs not handled a whole lot once itâs sent in, but more than that for the most part no one at the office is going to be giving up their good paying union job, with really good benefits to commit several federal crimes to cause quite literally nothing of statistical consequence.
Someone should do a study to see how narratives around issues shift when certain politicians speak out about them.
My mail has all been getting delivered on time. And Iâve been sending a lot of mail. Whatâs your source that itâs taking weeks?
âItâs simply not the post officeâs job to update everyoneâs address for mailing lists, itâs the residentsâ
We have been in our house for four years.
I have gone to the local post office about receiving other peopleâs mail.
I have talked to the mail carriers at least 10 times about it.
I keep getting other people mail. Is it still my fault?
âNo computers at branchesâ ?
It is even worse than what I thought.
âWorkers get yelled at for not getting in the street fast enoughâ?
Yes it is worse than I thought.
Thank you Bryant for your personal experience.
So you would risk, or assume there are enough
people that will risk it, to forge a signature of someone you donât even have a handwriting sample
of, with the hope the signature checking will pass
the signature on file ? And in the likely event
it doesnât match, guess whoâs address they will be coming to visit.
This is happening all over the country.
What proof do you have of people forging ballots
all over the country ?
There is none. I heard the stat that the chance that an American will die from Covid is 2000-times greater than a case of voter fraud.
I tried to vote by mail for Nixon in 1968, the first year I was eligible to vote (age 21 at that time). I decided to not vote though, since by the time I got my ballot Nixon had been in office for 3 months.
You know what? I wasnât entirely clear, and therefore what I said was wrong. I meant to say the previous residents of the address. Itâs not your responsibility, itâs just an annoyance for you unfortunately.
On everything else, like every job itâs always worse than you think it is. A lot of this comes from the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act. This act basically gave the Postal Service cancer or whatever long term illness that eventually will kill you youâd prefer. With the long game being the privatizing the mail. A lot of problems at the USPS could start being solved with the repeal of this act.
Anything more than this paragraph, Iâll probably get flagged and given what my tone would be, rightfully so.
Thank you Bryant. No worries, I pointed out that mail in voter fraud has been issue for decades.
I did a quick search.
The following is for NRGCoog and Randy. The following are convicted offenders. Do you still believe it does not exist? By the way you can change the state.
Reuters article is majorly misleading. They use the Michigan example (historically one of the most mail in voting corrupted state) Does Reuters think people will get caught? Sure they can but the likely hood is very slim and the election will be over by then.
Millions of votes went missing.
