Recognize this fella. Who knew he could sing.
Disappointing but canât blame her for looking for an opportunity to do more. Coach has an uphill battle to turn this thing around.
Saddened because she was among the few good players this szn
This certainly bothers me because I was hoping the new coach was going to make a big difference, but one win in conference play and then losing a top player doesnât bode well.
I know one year is too soon to completely judge, but I guess I was highly disappointed that we didnât get Flemmingsâ sister. I know, she went to powerhouse Duke, but I was still disappointed and it really leaves me in doubt if this coach has a chance to turn this program aroundâŠ
Per Kris Garder from the Houston Roundball Review, CMM didnât even try to recruit Kingstonâs sister, calling it a mistake because thereâs always the off-chance that sheâll follow even tho the program isnât competitive yet, similar to how Ed Oliver chose us (because his older brother played here & his dad wanted them to play together).
I donât fully buy into calling it a mistake, but they way Kris described it did make me wonder.
Certainly doesnât hurt to recruit but no way sheâs coming to a rebuilding program. Im not going to blame coach for that. Merchant leaving sucks but I understand her doing it. Coach is going to have to hit the transfer portal hard and show proof of concept next year if he wants to start getting top recruits.
Yeah, Iâm not mad about Marchant, actually surprised she stayed, initially.
Agree - POC has to be tangible in terms of wins next season, but I feel optimistic because the team was in it in many games and even played competitively against the Top teams in the conference at times, even tho the roster was patched together on the go (similar to CWF year 1).
Paper City Magazine is reporting the WNBA is returning to Houston. The story says the Comets will be playing at the Toyota Center, but I wonder if they might consider playing at the Fertitta Center instead? The Dallas Wings play on campus at UTA. The Toyota Center might be too large of a venue for all of their games.
Looks like the Wings are moving off the UT-Arlington campus next season.

Yes, the people saying this team was better than last year is just false.
As a former HS basketball coach I can tell you a good new coach , just with his/her system and cleaning up fundamentals should have been able to squeeze a few more wins than last year.
I didnât expect them to be competitive but I did expect some marked improvementâŠ.
The win total was the same and there were still massive blowout losses.
Not impressed.
Iâm not saying Mitchell is going to lead us to a title but I think we were lucky to win the games we won this year with this roster. The seniors were basically players who bounced around and werenât dependable for the most part. We had zero shooting and no size. Mitchell adjusted the style throughout the season and we stayed competitive in some games we shouldnât have.
This year, with a full offseason to build a roster and implement his system will tell us more. I think being out of the game 5 years and being used to SEC level recruiting probably didnât help but I think he understands what he is dealing with now. He has to show improvement this year for sure.
Coach Mitchell did not have the depth(especially point guard)to play his style of game.
He wanted to play uptempo and press. The team could not because lack of depth.
Which is why as a coach you adapt to what you haveâŠ.
When I was coaching basketball I loved to press non stop and get up and down the courtâŠ.every now and then I would have a team that was not deep enough or talented enough to do thatâŠ.
One year we literally had to win games 30 something to 30 something.
I watched some of the womenâs game this season and we suffered more from lack of depth than poor coaching. This team played better basketball than what they played under Hughey. Some of the games our players got tired.
Still happy with the hire. Tough hill to climb. Letâs see what happens next year.
Womenâs basketball itâs about acquisition of talent
