Seems like our transfer pickups have been pretty solid. Hope we can make some progress next season. Going to be a long turnaround, but we’ve seen the result of that with the guys team.
Time to start going back to seeing the Lady Coogs in person again. Mitchell has brought in an influx of talent, shooting ability, size, and PRODUCTIVITY.
The highest FG% on last year’s roster was 43.9%. Those young ladies just could NOT shoot. Layups included!!! Whoever cut themselves with razors cuz Merchant left…stop. Merchant was not good. She got worse as a Jr. She couldn’t even maintain a 1:2 Ast to TO ratio, let alone 1:1. Nobody on the team even had a 1:1 ratio (Anumele “was” 23:18 but she doesn’t count). Just a terrible roster that Mitchell had to cobble together. BUT…those girls played hard all year. Every game.
Now we have some female ballers. Mitchell has had time to mine the landscape for year 2.
The only frosh ladies to score more ppg than Raegan(as frosh) were JuJu, and Hannah Hidalgo.
The only soph. ladies to score more ppg were JuJu, Hannah, and Crooks.
Janiyah barely played at Oregon, but she still shot over 40% behind the arc when she got on the court. You know she’s a dawg…cuz in HS she had games of getting 18 and 20 boards. She’s 5’9". She ain’t jumping over anybody…she’s going to get IT. She avg’d a double-double in HS with boards. Pedigree. And she can shoot and finish.
Esmeralda and Raegan’s percentages speak for themselves.
Hell, Raegan scored over 17 ppg in W. Illinois’ games vs. P4 competition.
Kaelyn Hamilton is 5’9". Amirah Abdur-Rahim is 6’3".
Amirah shot 43.9% to lead the Lady Coogs in FG%.
Kaelyn shot 50% hitting the SAME amount of FGs as Amirah. Six inches shorter. Put that in perspective.
And add in HS talent like Alyvia McCorkle (a certified sniper - video don’t lie), Madison Carlton, and Tamia King…Mitchell now has PROPER ingredients in place to cook in the kitchen.
I hadn’t even spoken on Elodie Lutbert. But that size and production as a freshman? Forget the competition level. Mitchell has something to work with in her.
And Justice Carlton gets to escape from being in the shadows of Rori Harmon and Madison Booker. She can now be the face of UH Women’s Basketball.
…sorry Mr. Butch, that you’re continuing to see everything about the women’s program from a negative lens.
Nate
That’s a good report Nate
We have been down so long I frankly expected things to continue as usual after this year.
Now ai just might join you at a game or two!
