they did plan for future construction in the original design…the footers at the end zone were designed for additional future loads, the new video board and end zone facility…i guess the UH admin prefers premium seating clients…how much was the end zone facility?
Very rough estimate but based on experience, could be up to $500k for a new outdoor grade escalator with yearly maintenance of up to 30k. Maintenance is always the issue with escalators. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen proposals for one so I could be off.
Here’s the thing. I’ve seen many games at TDECU, but I’ve never watched a game there from the top deck, and honestly had no idea that the stadium even had an elevator. Never needed to use it I guess, so I never looked for it.
I guess I wasn’t very observant.
But I have to agree that not having any restrooms or concessions on that deck seems pretty messed up. What were we thinking?
Elevator is kind of hidden u wouldn’t even know it’s there, plus if the masses started using it, it can’t handle that kind of volume. They discourage people from using it
If concessions and bathrooms are added on the 3rd level, it would minimize the necessary volume of circulation between levels during the game. Not saying you would need to choose one or the other between escalators/bathrooms & concessions, but it would definitely be part of the VE analysis the powers that be would make before making a decision for such an expense.
Pretty much. It’s not designed to be a people-mover, and as a couple of others have mentioned, they try to restrict usage to people who really need it (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.)
I’m not convinced escalators will be the key to filling up our stadium, but we have to do something to keep those upper deck seats occupied. They’re great seats for watching a game, imo.
We are in a new era of when players are being paid like pro players, people are going to want a pro like experience, so the administration had better pivot to what the customer is going to expect.
We used it once when my buddy brought his wife to the game (she’s in a wheelchair). Definitely didn’t seem like it was something the public was supposed to be using unless necessary.
