What are some issues you believe that the basketball program is still facing

We know that turning the camera has always been a debate on here but what are some other issues you see in the basketball program.

And how could we promote ways to fix it?

That Kelvin Sampson isn’t still in his 50’s. I see that as an issue, someone should work on that aging thing.

@Footballer13 in the basketball program

You need a younger, more invested alumni base.

We talked about this several yrs ago, where Houston ranks as a basketball program. This was i believe when we were still in AAC. Things that are advantages to us:

*Great recruiting base

*NBA alumni (Jarace Walker, Grimes will be in the league for hopefully 10 yrs)

*Tilman Fertita

You’ve seen how bad things can get with a bad hire. Look at Wichita St, look at Louisville, how bad they got quickly w/Kenny Payne

But what sustains them is resources, fan support. You make a bad hire & fix it quickly with a great hire.

We dont have that Cameron Crazy student section that is associated w/ great basketball programs. We built a 7,100 seat arena based on the type of school we currently are. The AD talked w/ Will Kunkel. Whats really gonna elevate UH is the football program. The amt of revenue you can make from a packed football stadium. What can basketball do better? They’re operating at a high level

Just keep having a strong nil program and keep Sunshine.

I talked with Sunshine in San Antonio and believe that he is a real asset. He is fired up!

Watching our Duke game I felt that The Blue Devils had more talent. Our toughness and style of play wore down their talent.

With more talent this Season there is nothing to hold us back. We should overwhelm opponents. At halftime the game is over.

I say we have it this Season. An 8th. Final Four and a Natty.

Currently, basketball and UH in general have the same problem. SPACE . . . . . Need more seats but most importantly, more butts in those seats. Need room to expand. We can go up, but that might be cost prohibitive. Parking is a problem, traffic is a problem, entertainment venues are a problem. Lack of fan participation is a problem. Food service is a problem. But the BB team keeps on winning. Go, CKS.

I second this.

There is plenty of room. Get rid of the old building next door and tear down Fertitta and build on all of that space.

We were in The 2025 National Title Game.

We have the Nation’s #2 recruiting class for 2025.

The Nation’s #1 Center Recruit for 2026 just visited our Campus and said he is coming back in October.

We have issues?

Man, give us more issues like the ones I mentioned.

Letting someone continue to shoot when it’s already a given that they’re not on.

Our reputation as chokers is a big issue. Whether it’s deserved or not, i dont care how many Final Fours or championship games or mid-season #1 rankings we add, until we win a championship, we’ll continue to be seen as a 2nd class program.

So who sees us like that because it isn’t our opponents, the coaches, the recruits or the media?

IMHO- the biggest issue UH faces is getting to the Final Four and NOT winning the National Championship. A National Championship would energize the city, fire up a lukewarm fan base, and garner more national publicity. The difference would be like night and day.

My hs went to 5 semi final games before we made the tite game and won state in 2025. Football.
There were several more years we could have gone to state or won but winning it all is not easy at any level. Especially with 300 plus college teams vying for 1 championship.
