Group of Five schools Cincinnati, Houston, Rice and SMU. (Yes, Cincy and Houston have already been confirmed to be joining the Big 12, but let’s assume the Big Ten is playing an especially long game in its program-poaching strategy.)

Tier 5: Let’s be honest, there are better choices
School Sports Fit Market Composite
Baylor 38 24 60 41
NC State 33 54 35 41
Houston 39 38 36 38
Iowa State 27 52 33 37

Washington State 20 44 31 32
Cincinnati 35 43 14 31

Kansas State 37 37 20 31
Oregon State 25 47 15 29
Boston College 29 34 22 28
Vanderbilt 12 50 20 27
Wake Forest 27 39 14 27
SMU 21 25 32 26
Rice 6 43 16 22

And in the very long term, Houston — which will soon join the Big 12 — could be interesting as a big public university in a very big market. Time to join the AAU, Cougars!

A few years in the Big 12 and we easily jump to the top of tier 4, maybe even get into tier 3. Tv ratings will naturally go up, revenue will explode, more seasons of basketball being elite, and more factors.

Ha! It would be an AMAZING gnashing of the teeth in Austin and Collie Staion if the Coogs joined the Big 10.

We have almost a decade to elevate our status so by the time the ACC implodes, getting into Texas is far more attractive

Just give UH P4 money for a few years and better rivals and I think we will see TV ratings and attendance go up. Talk about a sucker punch to the SEC for the BIG ten to get Houston and say TCU.
