Who Has the Most Generous Boosters

There are many P5 universities that are much older that do not require freshmen to live on campus, I actually don’t know of any. I didn’t live on campus as a freshman at LSU, but my sister did. The fact is, the policy put forth by Dr. Khator had many exceptions that would allow for those that could not afford it or their situations would not allow it. I do support her initiative because everything she has done has been beneficial to UH and her motives are true.

Not sure when you went to LSU but my younger cousin went there and they had a Freshman live on campus requirement so they may have revised their policy since when you attended.

It says Total cumulative “Donations/Contributions” 2005-22. So, I don’t think it is looking at only tcket sales. However, I do wonder with the coaching salary how that is accounted for because I know not all the funds come directly from UH.

none of our interns like football… :smiling_face_with_tear:

I don’t expect is to do better than everyone in the conference. As a matter of fact I’d just be happy with a coach that didn’t go out and publicly expect to lose.
Hell this guy just played for an AAC championship but when you hear him talk he’s inherited the intramural rejects from San Jac.

Found this in link at the bottom of the UH page. You’re right as it is more than ticket based donations and includes support of AD operations. However, I believe it excludes donations toward facilities which I guess would fall under capital funds. Maybe I’m being picky but if we are talking about generous boosters, why exclude $ they have given toward facilities. We know UH has been heavily funding athletics so boosters may be asked to give to capital projects instead. Interesting data regardless

Well, with our new premium seating additions, we should move up some.

You have some examples of this?

I’d be interested in hearing some examples as well. Always interested in what message boards can do to point out our deficiencies. :sunglasses:

Yes other than the cost we spent on the Dome for so long, what examples do you have?

I was a freshman in the 1965-1966 school year. After 4 years in the Navy I returned to LSU for the 1970-71 school year plus fall semester in 71. I started at UH in 1976, graduating in May of 1980. I was a night school commuter student at UH, so I know how important that is to so many.

…and now, in 2023, they offer multiple campuses in the UH system to serve part time students

Just raise parking permit prices for those that commute. That’ll keep students on campus

Do you think students that attend satellite campuses will become avid Coog fans? History says otherwise.

No…that’s my whole point. They don’t want to be avid Coog fans…they don’t want to give back.

We have convenient satellite campuses for those students to work with their schedule/life situations

Our graduation rates, at the main campus, are KILLING us right now and is a major road block to AAU status.

Funnel the traditional students to the main campus and develop a traditional campus like every other school in a Power Conference.

We WANTED this!!!

We are a large 100 year old public school of 50,000 students yet we’ve failed to develop a university that connects with the majority of students that passed through.

Let’s strategically change that!

Totally agree. Severely limit part time on the main campus. I know there are edge cases out there, but as a general matter, part time doesn’t work for a major university. The mission should be graduate kids and research, not accounting classes at 7pm.

Yes, we have to change the whole commuter/2nd choice school narrative. It’s being perpetuated by many that live in Houston and a lot of parents and students find UH as a convenient option. Not necessarily because they love the Football/Bball teams and want the “college” and living on campus experience. I’m tired of it being a convenient option. What are the other attractive schools in TX doing that UH is not? Maybe they market it better. Whoever is marketing for people to go to Lubbock should get a raise. Why Lubbock over Houston? Why College Station over Houston? We are such a better city. I think academics at most of the big state schools are all pretty much the same. Their brands are just stronger and the networks are stronger.

Maybe being affiliated with some of these schools in Big 12 will level the playing field. But we need to hammer the Coog culture and pride into the new students from day one. Make it more fun to live on campus. Give em perks. And correct those that think UH is a backup option!

Oh you applied to UT but did not get in. Well you are not getting in here either as you wanted them first. Go somewhere else that wants you.

Thats what you want?

Tech is a big party school. Kids get to go away and act like fools. I know Tech people who’ve done this. Some have regretted it, but is what it is.

UH gave me scholarship money a semester before any of the other schools did.

I don’t know if UH still does it but if you graduated in the top 5 or 10 percent of your class, then UH would offer you a one time academic excellence scholarship to encourage enrollment at UH.
This is what UH needs to do to keep the best local talent in Houston and not let the best students go elsewhere.
