If we’re going to bite the bullet, I’d rather go for an up and coming coach. I feel NIL has changed a lot of things about recruiting these days. You listen to Saban talk. He has an established program, but he’s not happy because he’s at a school that can’t compete with some of the other schools. Add to the that, the portal. Coaching is a whole lot different now than it was five years ago. Is the talent there for UH? In some areas, lacking in others.
If we make a coaching change, how many players are going to transfer? You are now out there recruiting for HS and transfers 365… That backup on your roster you planned on for next year or in two years? He’s unhappy he’s not starting now and is going to transfer.
It took him three years to get just over .500 at Tulane and seven years before he won big. He’d be okay but I think we could do better.

I dont think it’s good comparison. Sampson really took over a program at rock bottom. He built the BB program from the ground up. When he came here, our facilities were not even as good as some high schools. No practice center, no Fertitta Center. So yes it’s taken years to build.
The FB program is in a far better condition. TDECU, the practice facility, and the announced Memorial Hermann Football Operations building will put us on par with most large programs. The next coach will be able to turn this around quickly

That is what I was saying. Agree 100%. Apologies for being unclear.
