I have posted this multiple time before. If the whinerw about the dusters do historical research they will find that oil workers wore dusters while out working dereks. So yes we are in Texas that is known for cowboys but we are also in Houston where oil is king. So the Fronteirsmen have a place in honoring both of those heritages. Also there is alot of cattle raised out in the counties in the Houston area as well.

Please…Please tell me that is not a dancers pole…

That was The Cougar Brass in the dome. My roommate played trombone and that’s what they would do. Pop up at any random entrance to the seats and play it. Good times

Did the ghost spirit of the frontiersman tell you that in a dream state? The dusters I mean. Just for fun, I googled it and I could not find a single picture of wildcatters wearing long white dusters. I mean, does that even make sense? Crude oil and white dusters? Sounds like BS to me.

I’ll say this, even if it is real, having to research into multiple Google pages isn’t great. Just stick to the simplest explanation, " Some guys were then at Frontier Fiesta and everyone liked it, and it became a thing" Nice and clean and how most college things start.

Hey Alums, y’all should yell the whole “THAT IS ANOTHER HOUSTON COUGAR” — then wait for the “FIRST DOWN!”

I moved to Texas and started UH in 1994.

I saw the frontiersmen at games. It never struck a chord in me one way or another. I’m not sure why their way of dressing bothers anyone.

One thing I can assure you is that nobody else in the country would see a Frontiersman at a UH event and wonder why he’s wearing a duster. Nobody.

It only happens on this board, and I’ll never understand why.

Frontersman are part of this Universities sports fabric. If they disappeared tomorrow I wouldn’t care personally. Just saying. But realize for some they are a tie into the Texas heritage and culture. Last time I look Houston is part of Texas, also the former home of the state Capitol, till they moved it to Austin. Funny we could have ended like the folk at UT in Austin all arrogant and full of our selves. With the states flagship U being here. Kind of funny to think about. What if?

Cool story bro. Like we don’t make fun of the Aggie male cheerleaders or the Rice MOB on here.

He’s miffed at why we have a problem with a benign tradition like the frontiersmen. I think we all understand ragging on the yell leaders. They’re mutants.

I miss the band marching into the stadium playing the Olympic March.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. When it’s 100° on the field, I would bet a lot of folks would wonder why a guy is wearing a coat. I would also bet that most people in this country are not steeped in cowboy or oil rig lore. But, if heat stroke is your thing, go for it. However, having survived one, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Horses for the Frontiersmen. Tech has one!!

Houston / Cougars cheer with the cheerleaders in the middle of the field.

Move all presentations to half-time. Slows the game down.

Move all the marketing crap for prizes to half-time.

Stop playing music over the band. Band is better.

The air raid thing needs to go. Very annoying and the Run and Shoot era is over.

Bring back the wave.

Bring back the beach balls.

Thats a good start.

Like the idea of horses for the Frontiersman. Have all of them ride to the middle of the field with the HOUSTON Flags and plant them before the start of the game.

Cougars attack horses, they don’t ride them. I think some are looking for traditions that aren’t there.

Ride cougars to the field or something. Plant those flags. Frontiersman on the back of cougars can you imagine that. Hmmmm

You know what happens next, right?

Good idea. I would rather the Frontiersmen ride horses across the field than running in their boots.

The running routine never made sense to me.
