You're a student again. What chants, traditions, gameday things, do you want to see?

Someday said tromboners

“cougar village 3”. Basically we “live” in the student section!

My all time favorite was the Cougar Brass playing Horse…

Worked so hard at hoops games to make that happen. The first time the cheerleaders did it vs UCLA I nearly cried. All the hard work paid off.

Never going to happen. Even the mighty and powerful Khator does not possess the political chutzpah to survive the blowback that the would sure to be unleashed by the anti-totemic animal bleeding hearts faction on the faculty. Many of whom are leftovers from the same body that pushed for INTERIM president George Magner to abolish the tradition in 1990.

Yea I don’t think frontiersmen represent the UH well. And before frontiersmen ask if I was somehow passed over and am just jealous of them (which is their go to comeback), they didn’t have frontiersmen when I was at UH. The whole re-incarnation of the frontiersmen is so hokey and contrived, some frat dude had a dream? Was it Joseph Smith? lol. And “Blaze” used to be a bonafide air raid siren when they started it during the Run and Shoot days. I don’t know how it morphed into an oil field siren that is way to loud. A historical frontiersman would have shot a cougar on sight, probably why we don’t have a live cougar mascot. Don’t get me started on the tan house dress/duster. That’s not historical either.

It would be kind of neat if the student section adopted the cheer of the last team we beat for the next hime game. I remember how much fun it was doing the FSU tomahawk at the end of the peach bowl and then at the next couple basketball games, lol

Don’t Stop Believin’ is a great song to listen to (if you are not Tony Soprano), but not to sing except for the chorus. In that regard it is kind of like Hustlin’.

Everyone knows the chorus “Everyday I’m hustlin’”, but the rest of the words, some of which are unsuitable for general audences, hardly at all. - Yet, it’s also a great song and a UH tradition going back to the Art Briles era. Why has it endured? My answer would be that its tone responates with many UH students and alums, who have to work (i.e hustle) to put themselves through college. By contrast, SMU’s musical tastes probably include any song that has the words “trust fund” in it.

I had no idea there was so much disdain towards Frontiersmen and The Blaze. I’m well aware you can’t make everyone happy. Never would have thought that though. I never experienced that the students had an issue or didn’t want to interact with us when I was on the field.

Based off this thread we as an alumni group have an identity crisis though. We’re all over the place,

Definitely need to go back to the traditional outfits. It was a popular look in the early 90s too…SNAP SNAP SNAP

Who said anything about the crowd rapping? Shasta’s Slab can ride out to an instrumental.

Also, I’ve decided it’s called Shasta’s Slab.

The minority always make the most noise. Don’t take what is on this board as a barometer.

I’m sorry. If we adopt “Don’t stop believin” we might as well have Shasta and Sasha hold hands at midfield and sing, “Lost in Love” by Air Supply.

Shasta was always a girl so I never understood why we needed Shasha.

Then again since I am the guy calling for diversity, I gets it is cool.

For the record. I was always fine with Buggy Beauties and Cougar Dolls.

I was the leading voice against the Guy Dancers several years ago.

So I am all for Student Spirit groups but those Frontiersman, got under my skin 40 years ago for some reason.

I don’t like certain vegetables either.
