You're a student again. What chants, traditions, gameday things, do you want to see?

How about the song “Just Can’t Get Enough” by Depeche Mode?

WTF happened to Blaze? It sounded broken.

I spent last night in the student section because I didn’t want to bother telling a family to get out of my seats, and from there, I’d say our game day presentation is pretty much fine. The DJ sucked, but that was whatever. The more time I spend thinking about this, the more I approach the conclusion that our only real problem is attendance. If we get people to come out, everything will solve itself.

I still want Shasta’s Slab to be a thing, though.

Nothing on this board should be taken at face value. The fact that you had no idea anyone felt that way about the Frontiersmen until reading this thread is a pretty good indication that its a minority opinion.

At least for me, it’s not just a minority opinion, it’s a weakly-held one. They don’t need to go, but if it were up to me, I’d do away with 'em. But I also hadn’t considered that losing them might cost us The Blaze; in that case they’re fine enough to keep around. I’d still modify their outfits, though.

It was nice seeing the Running of the Brass at the game last night. They’re good at bringing alive stadium sections. They really got the middle section of the home upper deck all standing and clapping and belting out a loud Eat Em Up yell. I can just imagine what it would have sounded like if that section was filled all the way up to the top.

I do miss Rah, Rah, Rah instead of Go Coogs Go.

Are you new here?

I think that many traditions are a generational thing. For me, I know the reincarnated Frontiersmen. It was borne out of the John Jenkins days. It means 4-7 records. One of two Klingers at quarterback. No defense. Empty Astrodome. Even Blaze. That started in the dome with an air raid siren and videos of military planes. Playing that loud racket with some dudes in raincoats running around on the field after a meaningless touchdown was kind of embarrassing.

It was a depressing time that ushered us out of the SWC and into a league with high school mascots that had been playing football for less than 20 years.

A current student may see the Frontiersmen as glorious. It’s all relative. Heck, I remember younger people on the previous board advocating that C-USA include schools like UTSA and UNT because they were most similar to us. They didn’t know what it was like to see the Coogs in the top ten playing on New Years Day.

If there was grainy video of the Fontiersmen running around the Cotton Bowl in 1977, I’d be thinking, “Hell, yeah!” But for me, raincoats.

No. I’m afraid to ask what difference it makes how long I’ve been on this board.

You must be because the feelings for Blaze and the frontiersmen have been known here for a long long time.

Agree to disagree. No one has had a problem with them until now. For no obvious reason. Or the blaze for that matter. Which is why alot of us donated to repair it that one year and to pay for storage. I don’t know where all of this is coming from either and it definitely (atleast to me) seems to be a minority.

I think the Frontiersmen and the Blaze are a great UH tradition, and I attended UH way back in the early 1970’s. And yes I remember John Jenkins giving the Blaze siren a good work-out. It’s all good!

I also remember Pardee/Jenkins’ era team captain & linebacker Gary McGuire telling me that we never lost a game against UT during the 3 years he played at UH. (ie: 60-40 in '87; 66-15 in '88 & 47-9 in '89). With UH scoring 173 points against UT in those 3 seasons, I’m sure that he and his team-mates (including Andre Ware) really did enjoy hearing that Blaze siren go off.

Right on! Everybody who is hating on The bBaze needs to go watch when we won the conference championships in 2006 and 2015 along with beating Tech at the Rob. The fans and students rushed the field in mass and it was a sound of beauty hearing the blazing roaring the background! It added to the emotion in those moments. What I miss is where at the Rob the Frontiersmen would hook the Blaze up to a truck and take it around the campus where everyone is tailgating letting it roar. I dont understand why they still cant do this then take it onto the field before or in between players come out for warmup.

I’ll suggest it to the guys doing it now. Not sure why it quit being done. I never did it during my time there.

There are too many commercials and piped in music for traditions.

This!!!

Yea. I can actually sit in silence for a minute or two and be just fine. I can talk to my neighbor without yelling. I can scan my phone for scores of other games. I can people watch. All enjoyable.

But there’s a lot going on aurally that is really distracting at times.

Has to be one of the most irresponsible comments ever posted. Please present your facts or remove the comment. I love seeing the band, cheerleaders, and Frontiersmen on the field.

So to kind of echo this and this has been a problem for a little while… There’s just too much all the time, have folks need to develop a plan for how and when things are played that are in their control.

This is turn can allow for successful chants, time for a sing along, hype music, etc

2 things…
Eat 'em up, eat 'em up, RA, RA, RA

Dam snowflakes…cancel everythi g

Real live Shasta at the games. We are big enough to handle the responsibility.
