I’ll be catching up with our Pro Coogs this week.
Or maybe this week. Been very busy lately.
### Connor Wong
Wong was drafted in the 3rd round in 2017 out of the University of Houston. He started his collegiate career as a shortstop and soon moved to catcher. The infield skills are still there as he occasionally plays second and third base but the primary focus is catcher. I wrote about the catching prospects in the Dodgers’ system in the off-season with more information about Wong.
Julks, who plays for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in the Class A Advanced Carolina League, started in left field for the South. The native of Friendswood, Texas, hit a two-run home run in a 1-for-3 performance with one walk. His homer came on a 2-2 count with two outs in the top of the ninth.
The South fell to the North, 8-7.
Wong, who plays for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the Class A Advanced California League, represented the South in the league’s Home Run Derby before taking part in the All-Star Game at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, Calif., on Tuesday.
Participating in his first-ever Home Run Derby, Wong hit two home runs in the opening round.
Wong also appeared for the South in the All-Star Game and drew a pinch-hit walk in the bottom of the ninth.
