Last time I looked, the coaches don’t play the game. And if the pay rate for the coaches directly correlated to the number of wins, then UT would have easily surpassed Alabama a long, long time ago.

Not sure exactly when it started but UT’s staff didn’t make more than Alabama’s last year.
Alabama started paying their coaches more when they started piling up championships. On the other hand, UT has paid a ton for lackluster performance. Remind me, how many national championships has UT had in the last 10 or so years? How many did Bama have? There’s your answer.
I’m not taking up for UT. Just saying Alabama pays as much as anyone in the country. They just get their money’s worth.
