We are lucky to have CKS. The alumni need to step up and support this team, and I do not
mean coming to home games, I am talking about preparing to travel for the FInal Four!
Unless Rick Barnes team falls at the end, COY is probably his, but I like our coach, I hope
he stays around for many years and we can watch his granddaughter grow up running across
the court.

Kudos to Alvin Brooks. Coach Brooks thank you for everything you have done for the University of Houston.

He was head coach at our lowest point of caring and our lowest point of administrative support.

He shouldn’t have been hired as head coach in the first place …

I am glad that he is helping us succeed now. No use living in the past.

In hind sight you are probably right…but at the time Brooks was well known as a really good recruiter. Well, he recruited very well at UH, well at least the ones he got into school.
His problems was, IMO, he was too chummy with the players and never really stood out as an authority figure.
But Brooks, a highly touted assistant, went on to recruit at some neat places before coming back to UH.
Personally, I am glad Brooks decided to come back here and finish his career…
Sampson obviously thought highly of him and wanted him here…now does anyone want to question Sampson? Didn’t think so…

I was a student during his years. Fun Fact…ahe coached Both Galen Robertson Sr. and Galen Robertson Jr.

Brooks had never coached before because the HC (can’t remember his name) wouldn’t let any assistant coach.

If you can’t remember Pat Foster’s name, makes your info on how he treated assistants a bit dubious.

Your theory is pretty shaggy, shaggy. Comment was from a friend through whom I’ve met Brooks several times, including at friend’s house. Can’t think of Foster’s name at the time because it wasn’t/isn’t important to me.

No one can blame Brooks for his tenure at UH no more than we can blame Clyde the Slide for his tenure or those other ones of which were so vital to the program that I can’t remember their names. The school as a whole…AD, faculty, board of directors, alumni and students didn’t really support the basketball program until Sampson was brought in and began to turn things around. Brooks had the opportunity to move on after last year, but chose to stay with the Coogs. I for one am glad that he did.

UH opened the Fertitta Center.

I saw some semblance of support last year at TSU for different games, but as a whole you are absolutely correct. Is it the team or the building?

Both.

60% building and 40% schedule/sorry *** fan support

I am mostly joking around with the %s. I don’t attribute any to the team. Sampson’s teams are entertaining: green light on 3s, tough on defense, push the ball when possible, etc. Anyone that sees the last few years the product has been entertaining.

After the NCAA Regional last season, I thought there would be much more fan support at HP&E. I was wrong. Could be that UH basketball fans were not believers yet in the program’s rise or they didn’t like HP&E and/or the opponent.

[Edit: Need to add that I thought you were asking if the lack of support at HP&E was due to the team or where the team was playing.]

Team > Building

I can just about guarantee you we would not have sold out Fertitta Center for the rest of the season and seven times already with a losing record.

JC…I think that was my point in asking the question regarding support this year…Was it the new building or was it the team that has drawn the support…I think for the majority it has been the team, but let’s be honest…many people came out to a game(s) simply to see and be a part of the new arena…ie…Oregon game…

I resent your statement as it is false! I was there as a student and Alunni at UH games under Brooks end of SWC, through Clyde Drexler, Ray McCalum,…James Dickey years I was in Central Texas…but I nevertheless support this school.

The perfect storm. Team made a run and built an identity with the students and fans the year before before moving into the new facility. Then we carries on with a near perfect season.

I am not going to start a thread about needing a bigger place but I do believe we need to find a way to let a few hundred more students in the building. Their tickets for the past few games have been claimed within 10 min of being available.

You mean like Thomas Jefferson!:hushed:
