For the stat geeks out there, you might want to check out a post on AztecMesa comparing UH and SDSU over the past month since the Aztecs went on their nine-game streak with a win on Feb. 14 over Wyo. Using a statistical tool known as T-Rank, the poster compares SDSU and UH. T-Rank shows UH as the 8th best team in the country over that period and SDSU as the 11th best. So this should be a very good game against two well-matched, similar-style teams that play tough defense. However, no good deed goes unpunished. To the winner goes the likely honor of playing Michigan, the nation’s No. 1 hottest team over the past month.
No kidding. The committee really needs to seed based on T Rank obviously. I’m only slightly joking. The fact is how well you play in the final month, when your team has had a chance to gel or has lost or gained people from injuries and healing, should matter more than the rest of the season. I’m not saying to ignore the first month, but you definitely want a weighted average heavily favoring the last month of play.
