Grass would be sweet but with us needing revenue and opening our field to the XFL among other games it seems it would be tough to maintain.

Probably new turf for end zone and logo at the 50 for the Roughnecks. I’d be pleasantly surprised if it’s new turf across the board.

Probably noteworthy here that FieldTurf only lasts 7-10 years. UH’s turf is getting close to the end of its lifespan, and with a new tenant and a new logo, it’s probably a decent excuse for a change.

Good point, it’s easy to forget that much time has passed. If they wanted to try to salvage some money out of it they could always section it off and do some sort of a auction where people could buy a segment of the turf like they did with the Astrodome, Rockets court, Robertson Stadium, etc.

I don’t mind the Houston city skyline but you can’t tell it’s that. The Thundercat logo still hasn’t grown on me. So I’m mostly with you.

From what I have heard, they could not repaint the current field, and the Roughnecks want their logos on it when they play. Supposedly splitting the cost for new turf that can be painted as needed.

The 3rd photo appears to show them taking large swaths of the turf off the field. I’m thinking it may be an entire replacement.

I hope it’s grass and a simpler, clean design. I despised the alternate green and busy end zone designs. Give me a clean “HOUSTON COUGARS” end zones please.

Plus the red was turning pink… which is what is going to happen. I wish they would get rid of the Thundercat logo, no one likes it and it doesn’t seem to fit.

This is a good opportunity to update the field logo to look like the updated UH logo. I think the bevel look has been phased out as of the 2018 season. The helmets no longer have it, and I am seeing it less and less on new gear etc. Looks much better on TV too. You can actually read it.
