Coogs blew a team with serious regional hosting aspirations off the field.
The two American teams that most think could host a regional are 0-5 against the Coogs at their places.
I wish our schedule could have turned out better, we might have had a chance to host again.
Yeah, this team is finishing white hot like last yearās team did. The difference is last yearās team didnāt go into conference play in a huge RPI hole. Really, really happy for this team. At times Iām sure this year has been hell for CTW and Padgett for different personal reasons. Heck, Iām sure this whole team really felt the squeeze at times because this is a program where wins, postseason appearances and conference titles are the expectation.
Itās gonna require a bit more consistent offense, but I think this could be a dangerous regional team. Also for Todd to stop bunting
Man, the bunts are out of control lately. Not sure why weāre trying to squeeze home a run in the 3rd inning of a game where weāre leading 4-0 and have runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Just no logical reason for it in that situation. Got to let Slaughter swing away.
I get that this is a lineup where he feels like he needs to manufacture runs. But I think by now itās pretty clear bunting isnāt really having a net positive impact.
As frustrating as this season has been no one can deny that this team has never thrown in the hat and just kept battling back from adversity the entire season.
And as frustrated as we all were with stranded runners, poor base running decisions, lack of power, etc. it has turned out to be a great season and this team as even lived up to its preseason hypeā¦
Frankly I have no aspirations of this team going very far in the playoffs, but then again this team doesnāt seem to care much about all the negative talkā¦
Even if we donāt win our AAC tourney or do well in regionals, I say this team has played its collective hearts out this year and deserves all the high fives allowed LOLā¦
And donāt forget, coach Whitting coached this team to an AAC title with a wife battling cancer to worry about.
Regardless, I think we all appreciate the effort and guts of this bunch and I think it bodes well for the futureā¦
Few things in sports send me into a fiery rage like the overuse of bunting. Swing the damn bat and stop giving up outs.
What are our chances now at making a regional? I would assume now we will be an at large with some quality series wins over top RPI teams.
Weāve been included in the projections on D1Baseball and Baseball America the last two weeks. Both have us as a 3 seed. Thereās probably an outside chance we can move up to a 2 seed, but it probably means 0-1 losses the rest of the way, to include the conference tourney. Problem with moving up to a 2 seed though is that we may get matched up against one of the top 1 seeds.
This may be one of those years where our RPI may not matter as much as our success against top teams. Two years ago, when we missed the tournament, we were 57th in RPI, but our record vs. Top 50 teams was 9-14. Weāre in a similar spot now, but our Top 50 record is 13-8 (8-2 vs. Top 25 teams) which will carry a lot of weight with the committee. Also helps that weāre now the conference champs of the 4th highest rated conference.
The sub-.500 league record also hurt that year as well. If memory serves wasnāt the conference in slightly worse shape RPI wise? I could definitely be wrong about thatā¦
Youāre correct. American was the 6th best conference that year and we finished with a 11-12 record in conference.

Thatās one of the reasons that I donāt like the National League, and prefer with AL with its DH. Too many outs given up by pitchers either striking out or laying down a sacrifice bunt.
It helps USF and UCF have gotten their stuff together. No reason why those programs should struggle to get to the postseason with regularity. I think Cincyās coach will actually get them semi-regularly in the postseason and keep them in the upper part of the standings. Now if Tulane and Memphis could get it figured outā¦
I donāt know a bunt might have been the better strategy in the loss to UCF with bases loaded and no outs.
Even though I hate bunting
