Houston Softball Posts No. 3 Team GPA in Nation

The University of Houston Softball program earned the third-best team GPA and had 11 student-athletes named to the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team during the 2018-19 academic year.

“Being top three in the nation for our team’s GPA speaks volumes about our academic support and our student-athletes’ dedication to their academics,” Head Coach Kristin Vesely said.

“Having 11 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, along with our accomplishments on the field in 2018-19, exemplifies what type of people we have and the direction the program is heading. We could not be more proud of our players’ success in both facets.”

The Cougars’ 3.719 team GPA was behind only Grand Canyon (3.760) and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (3.723). With its 11 representatives earning NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors, this also marks the third year in a row Houston has 10 or more student-athletes receive the accolade.

During the 2018-19 academic year, Sarah Barker, Kati Ray Brown, Bethany Busch, Savannah Heebner, Rachel Hertenberger, Rachel Hill, Aspen Howie, Kelli Montgomery, Abby Odneal, Sarah Queen and Brooke Vannoy were all recognized for their outstanding efforts in the classroom, having earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
