Casey, who is in his third year with the Houston program, had overseen the Cougars’ punt team and assisted with the kickoff return unit in 2017.
The Houston punt unit finished 2017 third in The American in net punting with a net return of 41.8 yards per punt while holding opponents to an average return of only 5.3 yards per return. Sophomore punter Dane Roy led the league with 25 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line while registering only five touchbacks on 58 attempts.
On kickoff returns, Houston was also third in the league with an average of 22.5 yards per return while the Cougars were second in the league and sixth nationally with four returns of at least 40 yards.
