King Named to Earl Campbell Award Watch List - University of Houston Athletics

King is one of 42 players on the list, as the preseason accolade is his fifth watch list entering the season. The native of Manvel, Texas, was tabbed to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List on July 15 , Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List on July 16 and the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2019 Player of Year Preseason Watch List on July 26 and the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List on July 31 .

In addition, King was ranked No. 40 in ESPN’s Top 50 College Players announced on Monday .

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity. In addition, nominees must have meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

Up to 16 semifinalists will be announced November with the watch list narrowing to up to five finalists in December. The winner will be announced at The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet for Jan. 15, 2020, in Tyler, Texas.

Oklahoma QBs have won it the last two (2) years. Baker Mayfield (2017) and Kyler Murray (2018).

King needs to bring this award back to Texas.
