Lindsey Stewart Named The American Player of the Week

Stewart led the Cougars to a perfect 6-0 record on the week, including a 5-0 mark at the Houston Challenge. In six games, the Pearland, Texas, native bolstered a .526 batting average, drove in 12 runs and recorded a pair of triples to go along with a home run.

In Houston’s matchup with McNeese, Stewart scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, which elevated the Cougars to a comeback win over the Cowgirls. On Friday, Stewart started the weekend with a bang, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs, all coming in the first inning of the Cougars’ 10-run frame against Incarnate Word. She finished that contest 3-for-3 with a career-high six RBIs.

She followed that performance with another perfect game at the plate in Houston’s first win over Northern Illinois, going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. The weekend also found her showing off her clutch gene with two walk-off hits Saturday.

Stewart tallied her second triple of the weekend in the Cougars’ second 8-0, run-rule victory over Northern Illinois with a two-RBI three-bagger and then singled in the game-winning run to season a 2-1 win over Kennesaw State.
