Sounds like HC Brannen cleaned house on the lesser talent & is set up for a huge class in 2020.

"Hardnett red-shirted his freshman year at Cincinnati, before being squeezed out of the program by new coach John Brannen. "

IF Hardnett is eligible off a redshirt w the program having no NCAA issues, (just a coaching change)
Quentin Grimes should be eligible.

Hardnett was ran off of Cincy to make room for top 50 Zach Harvey… Not an apples to apples comparison

Hardnett redshirted so not really the same and is now moving after a coaching change.

My only question on Grimes is when did decide to transfer based on the timeline of events at Kansas?
Not sure what the NCAA will consider rumor or fact and how that will relate with the timeline of Grimes decision to come home and play.

Really interested to see what Brannen does with this team. He’s almost the complete opposite of Mick Cronin in style.

Yes, Cronin had a gift for mixing in guys with certain outstanding defensive traits who were limited on offense.
He would get his offense from just a few guys.

Worked great regular season but in the NCAA when his scorers hit the elite defenders they got whipped.

Brannen purged the defensive stopper/offensive stiffs.

The Cinn fans & admin got a real good look at the new HC when Cinn used their facilities during their arena redo.
They love his style & organization.
(doesn’t hurt that although he is from KY, his hometown is @10 mile south of Cinni)

What remains to be seen is how quickly the cobbled together rat pack of old and young, fresh and seasoned can grasp a new system, and how much Brannen and his staff might have to modify that system in Year 1. The Bearcats were the 16th-slowest team in all of college basketball last year, according to KenPom.com’s adjusted tempo. Every player lights up at the thought of playing faster, but the jump from 50 possessions a game to 70 isn’t a simple recalibration. It’s reconstructive.

“There is an adjustment involved for the guys just in terms of how different some of this stuff is,” said Brannen. “We do have a football tilt to us here, because I learned a lot of that when I was at Alabama. Our process is really based on some football things, with our daily quality control and terminology and the way we focus on it.”

That’s a pretty good non-con.

" 5. Cincy lands top-50 prospect for new head coach

When Mick Cronin left Cincinnati this offseason for UCLA, the Bearcats were in trouble of losing most of their roster to the transfer portal. But for the most part, all of their key pieces remained for new head coach John Brannen from Northern Kentucky. That included the reigning AAC Player of the Year Jarron Cumberland along with Tre Scott and Keith Williams.

He also got to work in the transfer portal, landing a trio of grad transfers in Chris McNeal, Jaevin Cumberland and Jaume Sorolla. All of these guys will be key rotation pieces for the Bearcats next season. But where Coach Brannen gets the most credit is his quick work this offseason on short notice with his new team’s recruiting class.

The first thing was to make sure that top JUCO guard transfer Jeremiah Davenport remained with Cincinnati. He then landed Mika Adam-Woods, a 6’3 guard who was committed to Nebraska before their own coaching change. But it was the late pickup of Zach Harvey that made this a successful offseason for the program.

Ranked No. 49 overall and the highest non-Memphis player in the class, Harvey’s recruitment took a drastic turn after a serious legal situation occurred. During this time, many of the top schools going after took a backseat. Once that issue was resolved, Brannen and Cincy were able to secure the talented scoring guard in the end."

3d team
" JARRON CUMBERLAND, Cincinnati : It feels like no one ever mentions Cumberland when discussing the best players in the country, but here is a rising senior that only went out and averaged 18.8 points, 4.4 boards and 3.6 assists while shooting 38.8 percent from three. That’s not bad."

Wiseman from Memphis - 1st team.

" 15. JAEVIN CUMBERLAND, Cincinnati (Oakland)

Jaevin joins his star cousin Jarron Cumberland in Cincy after averaging 17.2 points last season for Oakland (after never averaging more than 2.7 previously) and shooting nearly 40 percent from 3-point range."

That’s how you know “analysts” aren’t doing research on the conference previews. Cincy as all kinds of injury issues coming into the season.

Davenport and prince were the last 2 players off their bench and weren’t expected to play either way

Moore got minutes for them, but his game isn’t good… he is a spot shooter who shoots 3s at 26% … him being injured for the likely first 3 weeks of the season might be blessings as it will be easier to put the younger players in front of him

Cumberland is a huge if he can’t play… no one at Cincy thinks he will miss a game …

With that many injuries are they able to scrimmage in practice and how does that affect team chemistry are more the issues.

Also new coaching staff and a roster turnover so the preseason is important. Not saying they will be bad but that can limit there ceiling.
