It was an honor to serve my country. As an American, we are provided the opportunity to voice our opinion and express our views but we all have an obligation to protect our country from threats both domestic and foreign. That can mean serving or supporting those that do.

I was working for a mutual fund company in downtown Houston when it happened. I was working in IT in a building that was fortified. All big companies had datacenters there. As the day unfolded me and a teammate were asked to stay at work while we watched 10,000;s of people evacuate downtown. We had to man the global helpdesk. I was in shock watching my beloved America get attacked on TV. I will never forget all those that lost their lives. I will never forget.

Thank you for opening this thread. The Armed forces, first responders , 9/11 heroes represents what our flag is all about. It represents what America is all about. The very best of all humankind has to offer.
It is crucial that we all remember that fateful day. Each day that passes is getting us further away from our memories. A nation is made of historical events. It is our duty us as adults to convey what freedom means. It is all too easy to think and act as if we can do whatever we like. Freedom is priceless and we have to understand what the cost of freedom is. Those who do not agree with politics from one side or another ought to put aside their differences when it comes to our freedom. When we do so we lose the very essence of what America is all about. The fact that we shall never forget is to understand why the intelligence breakdown happened in the first place. There is a huge difference between a fantasy world and one that is real. This last point is not about politics but more about basic common sense. Put away your Republican or Democrat hat and ask yourself this question. How can we have open borders and defend our freedom at the same time?

Thank You for this thread, and thanks to all of our first responders and service members. Freedom is not free…
We have true Americans who stand a post, run into burning buildings, who arrest bad guys…who keep us safe every day.

This day changed us forever.

Never forget why this happened, how this happened, and don’t let anything like this ever happen to us again. It is our responsibility to carry this torch.

Who the heck could forget 9/11? I remember it like it was yesterday.

Also I don’t think thanking service members is doing any service to those that were murdered on 9/11. This is the day for those that died at the towers and planes.

wow - for a non political site that bit about “open borders” - in a country that once cherished the Statue of Liberty and our status as melting pot - seems to regurgitate the current Soviet propaganda which reverberates on the Murdochs Marxist Network. As an actual real American - I find it offensive.

That’s the beauty of freedom! You can have a different opinion but express it without fear of retribution. Unless it’s on a football discussion board of course.

What does the Statue of Liberty and terrorists blowing up buildings have in common? When France gave the statue of liberty this was a gesture for welcoming immigrants that wanted to immigrate. Why on earth would we want to take the chance for terrorist to come through a porous/open border? That defies logic.
We have to protect our own citizens. This has nothing to do with politics but common sense.
If there is one thing we learned from 9/11 is to not let our guards down. An open border is a receipe for another disaster.
It is amazing to think this is even a point of discussion. Fantasy land does not exist.
Out of respect for every family that was affected by 9/11 we should do our very best to protect their/our own safety.

My offence was at the notion that there is an “open border” - that is a Murdoch Marxist talking point. The actual open border is the digital one - which is allowing the Soviets to send in their trolls, propagandists, thugs and inciters of slaughter of real Americans.
I find it more than pathetic that so many Americans are petrified, unjustifiably, of the MS PreK gang - 7 year olds clutching straw dolls and seeking a better life - while welcoming true thugs, criminals and terrorists from the remnants of the KGB. Doubtless, these keyboard commandos cower in their underground bunkers in fear of an outbreak of crayola coloring.
Since this is a sports board - I try to let all the little, pathetic, sycophantic mewling of the Maggats roll off my back - but to bleat out a talking point in support of an execrable individual who sought to have terrorist sympathizers run free at Camp David on the eve or the 9/11 attacks was a bit much.

We still welcome immigrants who legally immigrate. But, a poem on a statue does not contitute the law of our country. Illegal immigration and open borders is a recipe for the downfall of our country, which may be what a lot of the socialists actually want.

I suggest moving this to the political board or deleting altogether. The “open borders” references are ideological dog whistles and not at all relevant to the football board.

Innocent is innocent. RIP to all innocent lives lost due to misplaced anger and blind hate. No lost life should be considered “collateral damage”.

We honor the memory of all the victims who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. This 3,888 pound steel beam was pulled from the fallen World Trade Center site and now stands outside the UH Student Center South. #NeverForget

Perhaps they can waltz into Africa, Norway, Mexico… without lawfully entering… I believe I know how that will go. All bleeding heart liberals need to try that at least once without a passport and ID. Get in the real world
