“When you lay a foundation, that’s when big buildings are built,” said Gray, as Houston prepared for a West Region first-round matchup against No. 11 San Diego State in Wichita, Kan. "The people who are coming after us, they may make some Final Four runs - hopefully they’ll win a national championship. All the fans, they’ll remember the 2018 group that maybe led to the great success of the Cougars in 2028.

“This year right here will be very significant and special for all the true Houston fans, because they’ll understand how far and how long it’s been since the University of Houston program has been prominent, year in and year out, and been on a national scale of putting people on notice.”

He is 100% right. IF this team makes it to the sweet 16, I think we need to start coming up with a good nickname because the way Sampson has the program playing is special. Maybe never Phi Slama Jama levels, but the defensive intensity, hustle, and heart are only matched by a couple teams in the NCAA. No reason we can’t be like Virginia in a few years.
