“I wanted to be sure we got UH our first tournament win since 1984,” Gray said in a postgame interview on TBS.

Gray, and the rest of the Cougars, understand that they are playing for something bigger than this season.

They are playing for the program, playing to make sure UH stays on the map, playing for future generations of Cougars.

No matter what happens from here on out in the tournament, this UH team has ensured that the university will be known for its basketball program once again.

Gray responded, scoring 21 of the Cougars’ final 22 points, including 14 in a row.

“Rob had it going,” UH coach Kelvin Sampson said. “When he has it going, we’re going to ride that horse until they stop it.”
