Sanders' impact on professional baseball in Corpus Christi and Texas still felt today

Sanders, meanwhile, has given millions of dollars to charitable causes throughout his life, including helping build baseball fields at Sam Houston State and the University of Houston. He also helped supply funds to build a field in Corpus Christi, while also being a benefactor for Friends of Life No Kill Animal Adoption and Rescue organization in Houston and was a driving force in helping to get Minute Maid Park built in the late 1990s.

“He’s always believed in people,” Reid Ryan said. “He believed in me as a young kid. I came to him with a business plan and if it wasn’t for Don, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today as president of the Houston Astros. We wouldn’t have a Corpus Christi Hooks and we wouldn’t have a Round Rock Express.”
