"According to the resolution, no stadium funding would come from student tuition or fees. In addition, the university is currently in negotiations with the City of Mobile and Mobile County for debt-service funding, with additional funding coming from “private and corporate support.”

“The stadium would seat approximately 25,000 and cost $72 million to construct, according to a resolution included with the agenda. The proposed stadium would be built in time for the 2020 season, with construction to begin in July.”

The building of a new stadium at South Alabama and the closing of Ladd-Peebles Stadium have been intertwined for the last two months as the community has debated the issue. Mayor Sandy Stimpson suggested the city to pitch in $10 million for South Alabama’s stadium so it can close aging Ladd-Peebles and save millions in needed repairs.
