SMU comes to Houston on Saturday with a 4-7 record, falling to the Texas A&M in their last match, 7-0. Senior Liza Buss leads the team at Flight 1, holding a 3-4 singles record and 4-4 in doubles.
Coogs lead 3-2, but both the last matches are coming down to the wire.
3-3 now. Last much is tied 2-2 in the 3rd.
Coogs fall 4-3
In doubles, Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Elena Tairyan paired up at Court 1, where the Mustangs took the first match. At Flight 2, Ndindi Ndunda and Sophie Gerits were tied at 5-5, eventually stopping due to the clinch at Court 3. Phonexay Chitdara and Jovana Vukovic dropped a tough match, 6-4, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after, Cougars made a quick turnaround in singles, where freshman Stephanie Belovukovic tied the match defeating Sarai Monarrez on Court 6, 6-3, 6-0. The Australian has been dominant since the beginning of the season, currently holding a 10-2.
At Flight 5, Chitdara rolled over Ana Perez-Lopez, winning 6-1, 6-2. Vukovic played a hard fought match, but dropped the second point to the Mustangs at Court 4, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Gerits then followed with a big win over Karina Traxler, 7-6, 6-1.
At 3-2, Ndunda lost her match at Court 1, 7-6, 7-5 to make the match tied again. The deciding match was at Flight 2, where Kendall-Woseley faced Liza Buss in a long three-set match. After 3 hours, the junior from Boca Raton eventually dropped her match, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6.
