The AAC

People keep saying Texas and OU are all but gone, but frankly I can’t see it. The way things are going right now it looks like OU and Texas will be battling for Big 12 dominance in the years to come, with the winner probably advancing to the final four. With two less teams they are already making bigger bucks…so why in the world would either move?

Butch, yes they could decide to stick around, especially if they are allowed to take a disproportionately larger cut of the B12 revenue stream.

They already get a bigger cut ! Unless you mean an even bigger cut.

That is one of the problems with the so called big 12. I believe that in
the Big 10, the SEC and the ACC…all teams get equal cuts. What an idea !

Yes, I mean for example that UT and OU could claim that they deserve to split ~50% of the conference TV revenues while the other 8 teams split the remaining ~50%. So for example, at ~$300 million/year, that would give UT and OU each ~$75 million/year while the other 8 teams would get around ~$19 million/year (which is still far more than our teams get in the current AAC contract).

For GOD’s sake, how blatant does Oklahoma have to be with their intention to leave!! …They did NOT Extend the GOR, and neither did Texas… OU. can go to BIG or SEC, its up to them and whatever deal they cut…They are NOT STAYING in the Big 12 . Their leadership is not shy about saying so and is determined to leave…Big 12 dominance has nothing to do with the equation. OU and Texas both view Big 12 as inferior in every way…academics, research, money generated by tv deals in comparison to BIG or SEC…you name it…Their world view is to be in the best league…not the 4th best or 3rd best, the BEST…that can never be the Big 12…both schools are determined to be in a more high profile league, athletically and academically, and make more money…PERIOD…They are leaving when that GOR is close to expiring…

Just because you read the tea leaves doesn’t mean it isn’t coffee instead.

Ou has said they want to leave and they’ve also said they are happy with the conference. The fact that they are making lots of dollars and were In contention for the national championship makes them happy. Their future is bright in the big 12 so don’t be so quick to proclaim UT and OU gone from the big 12.

Reasoning would be that the Big12 schools bring in around $35M a year while the SEC and B1G bring in north of $50M.

As far as the B1G, being a member of the conference allows the school to hob-knob with some of the best academic schools in the nation; something that appeals to presidents who tend to make the decisions.

Maybe. Idk. Just something to watch if it does happen. It’s intriguing nonetheless.
