Sampson said the two coaches really got to know each other when he was at Oklahoma and Smith was at Georgia. From that point, the two would get together each offseason for a Nike-sponsored trip. Most recently, it included a get-together in Lake Tahoe and a few rounds of golf back in North Carolina.
