Wichita State emerges as potential basketball-only addition to the AAC

Also helping out the Shockers is the fact that they’re reasonably better than those other teams that joined the American, including the ones that have made the NCAA Tournament recently. Over the last four years, Wichita State’s average Ken Pom ranking is 10. The next best figure in the conference is SMU’s average of 21.

Assistant coach Greg Heiar will leave Wichita State for LSU, according to Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com.

Heiar is the senior assistant on coach Gregg Marshall’s staff. He is regarded as an excellent recruiter and takes a lead role in working on skills with players.

Wichita State’s roster is set for the 2017-18 season, but this summer will be critical for the future in the American Athletic Conference. WSU must replace seven seniors after next season.

Well I’m ready for November.

Wichita State is returning its entire starting lineup for the next season and will be the team to beat in the American. The Shockers may have only advanced to the second round in 2017, but if they had a better seed and had not faced Kentucky so early, they would’ve advanced at least another round.

The new kid on the block won’t be just a one-hit wonder either. Wichita State has made it to the NCAA tournament for the past 6 seasons, including a Final Four appearance in 2013 and a 10-6 overall record.

“Most of the things we wanted to talk about weren’t being talked about,” Bardo said. “I want to know how we win a national championship. I’m glad to be in the NCAA Tournament. That’s a good thing. I want to understand how we win a national championship. Most of the people I talked with in the American want to know how they’re going to win a national championship. That’s a different conversation.”
