Registration for the event is just $50 and includes dinner, refreshments, coaching sessions, interactive drills and a commemorative clinic t-shirt.

To preregister online, women can visit HoustonFootballCamps.com. All registrants must be 18 years or older and are asked to attend the event in workout clothing and running shoes for the hands-on drill portion of the event.

The event will also include a silent auction to benefit The LD&T Foundation. Those interested in donating items for the silent auction, or who have questions regarding Women’s Chalk Talk, can contact Grace Muscarello at gmmuscar@Central.UH.EDU or at 713-743-7803.

This came up last year after A&M’s chalk talk but I figured it us timely for discussion now. Is this women only chalk talk something that is outdated?

I was wondering the same thing. I think there’s a way to do it without it being offensive, but “hey ladies, pay $50 so we can treat you like children” probably isn’t it. I think that if the target is to get women involved more in the fanbase, it would be cool to see a women-only coaches’ roadshow type thing.

Except our coaches don’t treat them like children. They do get to do football drills and other things women haven’t gotten a chance to do since exceptionally few women have played football and those that have have been kickers.

Speaking of treating them like children, how about we let the market (i.e. women) decide if they are offended or not?

Except, you know, this is the same kind of event that coaching staffs put on for acutal children. How often do you think adult football fans, regardless of gender, wonder about the drills players are doing? I know for me, personally – even as a person that has never played football – the answer is “basically never.”

Sure. That’s absolutely fair. That said - there aren’t exactly a ton of women making their voices heard on this board, which kind of speaks to a failure on UH’s part in engaging women in the fanbase. It couldn’t hurt to try alternatives at this point. Even if the current iteration of women’s chalk talk isn’t offensive, it certainly couldn’t be described as successful.

Actually, I know a bunch of people that would love to get to do the drills at the stadium just like the team does. When they started putting videos of the women at the chalk talk running, throwing, and catching quite a few people I know said, “Hell, I want to do that!”

Count me in as a guy who would like to to this at least once in my lifetime even though I played FB in HS.

I would pay money if they let random students and alums come in and get coached by Applewhite and company.

I’m actually really jealous when this event comes around each year. Just me though.

Make it a fantasy camp and make it coed. Or I guess they could have both. Though the real fantasy camp would end with us stomping UT.

My wife loves this event and has a blast every year. From what she’s told me about it, I’m not sure why someone would take offense to the event.

As a woman poster here, thought I’d chime in to say that I went to both of these under the former coach and thoroughly enjoyed myself. We get to hear from and interact with the players, tour the training and locker rooms and learn about football (cover 1, cover 2, etc). Getting on the field to do the drills is fun. And, I like that it’s women only. That said, I wish they had options for those who get the basics to learn more advanced knowledge but I get the limitations.

Oh, I didn’t realize this was a part of it. That sounds like a lot more fun than the impression I get from their ads.

Didn’t they do “Dream Camps” when Sumlin was around? I heard that they had to quit those due to things getting a little out of hand and information getting leaked that wasn’t supposed to.
