Toughest game on our schedule
This one is a pure rivalry oh man stadium gonna be packed with the history behind this one
The legendary Bayou Bucket? I expect 42k in the stands and no less!
The offensive side of the ball sure is a lot younger than I originally thought. I know the Covid year bought everyone a free year but 4 of our 5 starting linemen right now are listed as Sophomores. We also have a true freshman starting at receiver in Golden playing alongside Manjack who is also an underclassmen and just now entering his second year.
If McCaskell was healthy then weâd be looking at up to 7 underclassmen starting on the offensive side of the ball right now which is basically the case anyways since Freshman Brandon Campbell is now splitting reps with Henry. Hopefully these young guys continue to improve and we start looking the part as the season progresses.
Itâll be interesting to see what happens at the quarterback position in the off season. With the entire offensive line eligible to return next year, plus the return of Alton McCaskill alongside a more experienced Brandon Campbell, plus an extra year of our young receiving core Manjack, Golden, Jackson, Brown, etc we could be one talented transfer QB away from having a dangerous offense next year.
Glad Manjack is starting now maybe we should try giving him the ball. Also T johnson at G was a bright spot, heâs P5 big and we really need the help in the interior. Morris been playing really good Iâm limited time so Iâm excited to see what he looks like getting full minutes
Back when I was at UH (2005-2008) Rice was probably our biggest ârivalryâ for students. We played them every year in football, basketball and baseball. Even though we won more games in FB and BB they still won a fair share of them. The students came out the most in BB for Rice by far. Maggard, Briles, and Penders had Coog Crew giving âem the claw. Ruck Fice, all that. Who would students consider our biggest rivalry now that they get excited for? I think TT and/or Baylor becomes our number 1 rivalry in B12.
Iâd switch 19 for 32 personally.
Nice post and spot on, CoogGrad16
Are both of the Rice fans coming?
I would say tech. UH and TTU are in similar boats in regards to Texas higher ed/puf, though UH has the edge in almost every metric. Baylor is there as well but mainly because they clearly should have been left out of the SWC/B12 scenario in favor of a publicly funded uni. But current students donât know about all that.
Sometimes I wish rice was a competent G5 team with a real fanbase so we could have a legitimate crosstown rivalry. I think Rice being tiny and having the house system kills a lot of their school spirit. itâs crazy that back in the day they could fill their football stadium and now itâs always empty unless they are playing us!
I feel like Baylor fits the bill nicely as a rival. I enjoyed the public school vs private school thing we had going with SMU. As far as I know they donât have a dedicated rival since TCU and SMU are sworn enemies.
Man, Rice seems quite young. Lots of underclassmen.
Dana ? ? ? ? ?
SOâs grand nephew plays for Rice. Because of this, I know of half a dozen that will be there . . . . .
I canât speak for the students, but I feel like the obvious answer is TCU. We both know what itâs like to be left out of the club for a couple of decades (well, a decade and a half in TCUâs case) and we both had to do some soul searching to get back. Sprinkle in a dash of Houston vs. D/FW, and baby, you got a stew going.
If you ever attended the TCU -UH baseball series, they were intense. I donât see it for football though. I think Baylor and Texas Tech will be #1 and #2. Gundy vs Holgy could be fun thoughâŠMullet Mania
